He stood there until a nurse came out of the operating room with a bill. “Go take care of the bill. Leave the patient with us. Please don’t worry.”
Finally, he was jolted back to reality. He nodded and jogged to the billing counter.
Natalie and Emilia arrived at the hospital about 10 minutes later.
When Natalie received the phone call from Xavier’s assistant, she could not believe that the man, whom she had just seen going to work in the morning, would have been involved in a car accident.
Indeed, Xavier Foster had been involved in a car crash. Unfortunately, the situation was not optimistic.
The chauffeur had been driving the car across an intersection when it happened. He had made sure that it was safe to cross before moving on, but a large truck came out of nowhere and collided with the car.
Although the quality of Xavier’s automobile was inarguably high, it still would not be able to sustain the impact of a truck slamming right into it.
As a result, the car was thrown into the air after the collision like a paper crane.
The good thing was that the oil tank of the car had been fashioned with extra protection, so it did not leak and cause a fire. The airbag was also deployed just in time to save his life.
Even so, it was not possible for someone who suffered an impact this severe to come out of it safe and sound.
When his assistant arrived at the scene, he saw Xavier’s face drenched in blood, and he was already unconscious.
Tragically, the chauffeur died on the spot.
A traffic accident like this could not be considered a small mishap no matter how one looked at it.
His assistant was in desperate need of help. He could not handle such a huge change in events. Someone else must take his place in handling everything from the hospital to the public responses.
That was why he called Natalie.
A witness at the accident called for an ambulance.
Luckily, the ambulance arrived just in time. He then followed the vehicle as they transported Xavier to the hospital.
Natalie listened as the assistant recounted the entire story to her. She felt as if her thumping heart was stuck at the bottom of her throat, and she was having trouble recovering from the shock of the news.
The assistant saw her grave expression and tried to comfort her after a moment’s thought, “Mrs. Foster, don’t worry too much. The doctor said just now that the chairman didn’t suffer any serious injurious. He should be fine.”
That was what he said to her, but he did not have much faith in his words.
Nevertheless, there was nothing they could do now, so he thought some words of comfort was better than nothing.
Natalie nodded. She had been through a lot these past few years as the mother of the Foster family.
No matter how painfully her heart was throbbing or how worried she was about him, she had to force herself to maintain a calm composure.
She turned to the assistant and ordered, “Go back to the office right away. Notify the public relations department and prepare emergency plans for when the news breaks on the internet.”
The assistant nodded and left hurriedly.
Then, Natalie took her phone out and called John. Her hand was trembling the entire time she was holding her phone. She almost dropped it a couple of times.
Eventually, she steadied her hold on the phone and dialed the number.
John picked up the phone in a flash.
The accident happened so unexpectedly that John had not been made aware of the news at all. He was having a conference meeting at the company.
He was a little surprised to see his mother calling him. Normally, she would not call him at such an hour.
