After Gregory finished speaking, he ignored her and strode out the door.
Yuliana stayed in a daze for a long time before she finally reacted and her face changed dramatically.
Meanwhile, Vickie could not sleep that night.
She did not know if it was because of what happened or because she was in a troubled mood, but she stayed in bed with her eyes closed for a long time, and still, she was unable to fall asleep.
It was pitch black in front of her when she opened her eyes. Turning her head slightly, she took the remote control from the head of her bed and opened up the curtain to see the silvery moonlight pouring in from outside.
It suddenly reminded her of a long time ago when she was still in the orphanage.
It was also a summer night like this, where the moonlight was bright and the sky twinkled full of stars.
She could not sleep, so she sneaked into the kitchen and stole a handful of melon seeds. Then, she climbed up the stairs behind the yard and sat on the roof to watch the stars.
She ate the melon seeds while watching the stars, and even as the cool night breeze hit her, it seemed sweet.
At that moment, a young and cold voice sounded from below.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
She was startled as she thought it was Old Director Glenn, so she wanted to get up and run away. However, she ended up stepping on a mossy, broken tile, and at that moment, she fell downward.
The teenager was probably shocked at seeing her fall too. He just stood there, dumbfounded and unmoving.
Fortunately, she ended up landing right where he was standing, and the two fell to the ground together with a ‘thump’.
The teenager’s body ached everywhere due to the collision, and he felt as if his bones had fallen apart. The two had a hard time before they managed to get up from the ground.
As soon as she saw that it was him, she immediately became angry as she smashed her fist on his shoulder.
“What are you yelling for? You scared me to death. I thought you were Old Director Glenn.”
Little Gregory clutched onto his chest that she had hit and grew angry too.
“It’s the middle of the night and you’re sitting on the roof instead of sleeping, yet you’re blaming me for calling you?”
At the mention of this, Vickie felt a little guilty.
She could only say weakly, “What has that got to do with you?”
Gregory was furious, but there was nothing he could do to her, so he simply snorted.
“If you do this again, I’ll tell Old Director Glenn and let him teach you a lesson.”
At the mention of that, Vickie was immediately afraid.
It was not easy for her to find such a place to stay. She had clothes to wear, food to eat, and even classes to study. She did not want to be thrown out.
Thus, she quickly grabbed him and begged, “Okay, okay. I was wrong, alright? Don’t tell Grandpa Glenn.”
Gregory snorted, and that was the end of it.
As they stood in the small courtyard, he looked up at the roof and suddenly became a little curious.
“Is it really that comfortable to sit up there?”
Vickie said, “Of course. The inside of the house is stuffy and hot, but the roof is different. It’s cool, and you can look at the stars. Do you want to try it too?”
Gregory had grown up heeding the rules and never tried to break them before.
So he shook his head without even thinking about it.
“No way.”
Unexpectedly, this made Vickie more interested.
She pulled him and said, “Hey, don’t be in a hurry to refuse. Try it. Maybe you’ll like it once you try. I’ll take you up there.”
He was reluctant but could not resist her enthusiasm. With that, he finally climbed up the stairs with her awkwardly.
The world on the roof really was different from the ground.
It was as if the sky was right above him, and he could touch it if he just reached out.
