"Since the two dolls are busy, you guys shouldn’t stand here and do nothing. My roof has been leaking for days. Do you know how to fix it? Go and help me mend the roof."
Gideon's face was as cold as ice, but Nell tugged on his sleeve and smiled while she said, "Don't worry, Grandpa. They’ll fix it."
The old man scrutinized her, and only then did he leave satisfied.
After he left, Gregory felt so annoyed, he said, "I think this old man’s tired of living. Vick, you don't need to bother about those dirty clothes. I don't believe that when I put a knife to his neck, he still won't hand over the jade.”
As he said this, he looked as if he wanted to sharpen a knife.
Nell looked at him and rolled her eyes.
"Third Young Master Graham, I'm sorry to tell you this, but I'm afraid your method won't work on this old man."
With a frown, Gideon said, "Why not?"
Nell sighed.
"He has lived for a long time, and when he was young, he was an experienced dealer in the antique business, so what situation has he not seen before? Also, since Grandma has already called him, that means he knows of our identities. Yet he still deliberately wants to make things difficult for us. That could only mean that he doesn’t give a damn.
“Now, we’re depending on him as only he knows where the Arcane Jade is. If he refuses to tell us, I guess even if you really do kill him, we won’t know where the jade is.
“And even if you don't value his life, you should care about Vickie's life. It won't do us any good to have a fallout now, so let's just put up with it for a while. The good thing is that it's just roof repair and laundry. It's not a big deal as long as we can get what we want.”
After listening to Nell’s explanation, Gideon and Gregory came back to their senses.
Vickie nodded as well. "Yes, it's good enough that we’re not asked to do illegal things. Since we have a request from him, we shouldn’t just take things for free. Why don't we listen to him first and see what he says later?"
With that, the two men nodded and separated their tasks before they went their separate ways.
With so many clothes, it was quite inconvenient to wash them in the backyard.
Therefore, after getting directions from a villager, Vickie and Nell took the clothes to the river and started to hand wash them.
Although Nell had lived a tough life in the past, her life was not too bad and she did not have to wash so many clothes by hand.
Therefore, this was the first time she had to hand wash so many clothes at once.
More importantly, these clothes had been worn for a long time and the stains on them were crusty. Luckily they were all dark in color and could not be seen if one did not look too closely. Otherwise, it would be even harder to wash.
As Nell washed the clothes, she sighed jokingly.
"Vickie, you now have a pair of billion-dollar hands washing clothes for you, and two pairs of multibillion-dollar hands helping you to repair the roof. You have to be strong and get better. If not for yourself, you have to think of us!”
Vickie let out a laugh.
"Okay, why don't you take a break and I'll wash it myself?"
Nell raised her eyebrows.
"Are you sure you can finish washing all these clothes by yourself before the sun goes down?"
Vickie answered honestly, "I can’t."
"Then?"
Nell smiled gently. "Don't be discouraged. Although the old man’s giving us a hard time, my gut tells me that he’s not an evil person. As long as we listen to him, he’ll probably give us what we want.”
Vickie was silent for a moment.
However, after a while, she forced a smile. "Nelly, thank you, all of you."
Nell was stunned but when she noticed Vickie’s expression, she then laughed and said, "What? Don't think too much about it! We’re friends, and it's only right for us to help each other."
Vickie nodded her head. "Yeah, I know."
Although she said so, she knew in her heart that this time, she and Gregory owed Nell and Gideon a big debt of gratitude.
After all, it would be no big deal if she had these two handle a business deal. That was their main battlefield and they were veterans in that area.
