Gideon looked at Nell with concern and nodded.
"Alright."
The two of them walked to the end of the corridor. On this side, the screams in the room could not be heard. Nell looked out the window and asked softly, "Who do you think that Grant Lennon is?"
Gideon carelessly played with her soft fingers and said, "The Chinese Association."
Nell was stunned.
"The Chinese Association? Didn't they already…”
She stopped her sentence halfway.
Gideon looked at her and faintly said, "Although the Chinese Association has fallen, there are still many small forces remaining. I’m guessing this Grant Lennon was considered one of their core members. This time, he probably wanted to get the Arcane Jade because he heard that the Flinders Clan wanted to collect it and thought of making a deal with them."
Nell nodded. She recalled last night’s incident and was still a little afraid.
"Luckily we got it one step ahead of him. Otherwise, if we really let it fall into his hands, Gregory wouldn't be able to get six pieces and Vickie's illness would be dangerous."
Gideon also nodded his head.
"This is probably fate. She shouldn’t die yet. Even the heavens are helping her."
They stood for a while until a “bang” came from the hallway and Gregory and Vickie came out of the room.
The couple held hands as they walked up to them.
“How was it?"
Gregory's eyes were cold and he said drearily, "The Chinese Association."
Gideon winked at Nell.
Nell sighed and said, "As expected."
Her words, however, stunned Gregory, who quickly reacted and looked at Gideon again.
Gideon asked, "What are you going to do with it?".
Gregory said coldly, "Give him a beating and let him go."
He promised Grandpa Brooks that he would not take his life, so he would surely keep his word.
Gideon nodded, then lifted his wrist and looked at the time.
"It's getting late. We've booked tickets back to the capital. What about you? Will you come back to the capital with us or to Lin City?"
Gregory looked at him and said without hesitation, "We’ll go back to Lin City."
"Alright, then you guys be careful on the way. Feel free to call if you need anything."
Both of them nodded and the four of them said goodbye to each other before they parted ways.
It was already evening by the time Nell and Gideon returned to the capital.
Since Nell saw that gory scene this afternoon, she felt a bit uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Her entire body was weak when she got home.
Gideon was afraid that she had caught a cold after running around all night the day before, so he had called the family doctor to come over and take a look at her.
As she laid on the bed for the doctor to examine her, Nell smiled and complained.
"I'm just a little tired. Look at you, all nervous. You even called the doctor. Others might think I was really sick."
Gideon was beside her, watching over her while doing some work on the computer. He said without raising his head, "Don’t underestimate these small illnesses. Sometimes a cold can also cause many other problems, so it’s better to be careful."
Since he said so, Nell could not say anything else.
She saw that the doctor had been examining her for quite some time and still had not finished, so out of curiosity, she asked, "Doctor, you’re not done yet? I should be okay, right?"
The doctor’s eyebrows were locked and did not answer her. All of a sudden, the doctor turned and took a pregnancy test from the box and handed it over.
"Madam, please go to the bathroom and take a test."
Nell was stunned and was in disbelief.
"This…”
She turned to look at Gideon, who also saw it and was a bit surprised.
Nell smiled awkwardly and said, "This can't be. We… We’ve taken measures."
The doctor was silent for two seconds then explained, "All contraceptive measures can't be 100% effective, so I still recommend that you take a test first. If the results show it’s positive, I'll do an in-depth examination for you."
