A cold voice sounded as the lobby manager walked over.
The receptionists who saw their boss coming immediately scurried to their original positions like mice seeing a cat.
“Manager, we weren’t talking about anything.”
“Yes, yes, we weren’t talking about anything.”
The manager just snapped at them because she saw them gathered together. Even though they slacked off on occasion, she turned a blind eye most of the time.
Thus, she did not pursue the topic and said instead, “Mr. Leith is in the office now, so you all better be more careful when working! I won’t be able to protect you if you get caught!”
The receptionists knew that what the manager said was true and hurriedly nodded obediently.
“Manager, we won’t dare to do it again.”
The manager was satisfied and left with a hum.
...
The elevator reached all the way to the forty-eighth floor.
With a ‘ding’, Matthew took Nell and brought her directly to the president’s office.
It was not the first tie Nell came to Gideon’s office, but it was different from the last time. Previously, she came at lunchtime so the people in the secretarial office had left, so no one knew that Nell was here.
Today, Gideon had stayed to work overtime, so the people in the secretary’s office naturally did not dare to leave early.
Thus, Nell could only force herself to continue walking under inquisitive gazes.
She felt slightly regretful.
She had only thought about how to please the man to make up for her debt last night, but she forgot that everyone else would still be working as well.
Coming over like this, her relationship with Gideon was bound to be exposed.
Nell could not help but want to retreat at this thought.
“Um… Matthew, why don’t you just help me deliver the food? I won’t go in.”
Matthew looked at her awkwardly.
“Missus, the president already knows that you’re here. If you don’t go, he’ll be very disappointed.”
Nell laughed awkwardly.
“But… There are so many people outside your office…”
Matthew smiled. “Don’t worry. The secretary’s office is under my control, and the people inside were all carefully selected by me. There are no big mouths so you don’t have to worry about anyone saying anything.”
Nell grew slightly relieved at his words.
In the office.
Gideon was currently dealing with some work in his hands.
Matthew knocked on the door, and he answered, “Enter.”
Matthew pushed open the door but did not enter and instead smiled at Nell beside him. “Missus, please go in.”
Nell nodded and took the thermos container in his arms before walking in.
Gideon looked up at her.
She was wearing a pastel pink dress that reached her ankles, a thin coat of the same color, and a pair of pale pink flats on her feet.
She looked a little more gentle and ladylike than usual.
The corner of his lips overflowed with a hint of laughter as he said in a warm voice, “Sit down for a while. I’ll be right there.”
Nell nodded. She could tell that he was really busy.
She sat obediently on the sofa by the door and casually picked up a magazine to flip through.
Gideon’s office was usually filled with financial or military magazines or newspapers, so it was evident that he was only interested in those. It was rare to see an entertainment magazine under the coffee table.
The cover of the magazine was the portrait of a top-notch actress who had won the Hundred Flowers Award and Golden Rooster Award in recent years. She was Stephanie Garrett, who was known as the most beautiful queen of film.
Nell was quite fond of this Stephanie Garrett.
After all, she was pretty and good at acting. She was not on the same level as the silly trendy little flowers who were terrible at acting.
She also heard that Stephanie’s family was well known and was one of those families who could make the ground shake if they stamped their feet.
Being an actress was just a dream of Stephanie’s.
Thus, there was no gossip spread about her, and the dirty and filthy happenings in the entertainment circle had nothing to do with her.
A person like that would be liked by everyone.
Nell was looking at the magazine with great interest when Gideon put down the pen in his hand and stood up.
“What are you reading?”
He walked over to her.
