Nell listened and nodded.
“Was she already like this when you met her?”
Mr. Donnelly frowned slightly and sighed. “Yes, when I first met her, I sensed that she was different from ordinary people. She seemed to be always full of good intentions towards the world, but she was sensitive and easily frightened. I guessed that it was because she had gone through something in the past.”
He smiled awkwardly. “Of course, it was her private matter, so I didn’t bother that much since it wouldn’t be good of me to ask too many questions. It was only after yesterday that I realized it was because of this.”
Nell was silent for a moment.
“Actually, I have a presumptuous request that I hope you’ll agree to.”
“Please say it.”
“Although I’m her daughter, she doesn’t remember me now. She’s very repulsed by my approach, but I’m still worried about her. From what I saw of her condition yesterday, it seems to be different from normal people both physically and psychologically. I want to ask for a doctor to examine her.
“Of course, I won’t force her to remember me. I just want to make sure that she’s healthy and safe. However, if I were to say anything about it, she definitely wouldn’t agree, so I’d like to ask Mr. Donnelly to say that it’s a doctor friend you found in the capital instead, and you’re letting her get a check-up along the way. Is that okay?”
Mr. Donnely was stunned, then burst out laughing.
“Mrs. Leith, I know that you’re doing this with good intentions, but as far as I can see, it’s not necessary.”
Nell frowned. “What do you mean?”
Mr. Donnelly smiled. “You didn’t know, did you? The person next to your mother right now, Mr. Sean Miller, is actually a famous doctor. He was the one who saved me when I was poisoned by a snake in the desert. It’s said his medical skills are some of the best in the world, but he’s a little eccentric and doesn’t like to stand out and isn’t good at communication either, so his popularity isn’t as wide as the doctors who seek fame. Since your mother has been married to him for so many years, her health should be fine.”
Nell was surprised. “He’s a doctor?”
“Yes, if you don’t believe me, you can find a doctor friend you’re familiar with and ask them. Outsiders won’t know his name, but those in the medical field will know very well.”
Nell turned and looked at Gideon.
Gideon understood and took out his phone to send a message to Emmy.
Emmy’s reply came quickly.
“What? Sean Miller? Where is he? You actually met that monster? Oh my god! I wanna meet him too. I also want to ask him some questions that I haven’t been able to understand. Tell me where he is.”
Gideon turned off his phone screen with a blank expression.
He turned around and nodded at Nell, and Nell realized that Mr. Donnelly was not lying.
With that, the matter about Cathy’s health was put at ease.
At that moment, there was the slight sound of footsteps from outside.
The door of the meeting room was pushed open, and Sean came in with Cathy.
“Brother Donnelly…”
She had just spoken when she saw the other two people in the room, and she froze and immediately paled.
Her fingers subconsciously tightened on Sean’s sleeve and Sean frowned, taking her into his arms and looking coldly at the people in the room.
Nell stood up.
“Oh my, you’re here. Hurry over and sit.”
The first person to react was Mr. Donnelly, who quickly stood up and smiled to smooth things over.
Cathy and Sean entered the room. Their steps paused slightly when they passed by Nell, but in the end, they did not say anything and simply walked past her to sit down.
“Why did you two think of coming over today?”
Mr. Donnelly knew that because Cathy was in poor health, they usually spent most of their time resting at home and did not come out until noon.
