Nell suddenly had a thought and her face changed.
She suddenly knelt back down and touched the back of the deceased’s head. She already had a theory formed in her head.
Gideon asked her, “What’s wrong?”
Nell shook her head. “Call the police. We need an autopsy. This isn’t Aunt’s fault so there’s no fear in calling the police.”
Jean heard that and panicked.
“Nelly, please, we can't call the police! Murder is illegal! If the police come, my life is over!”
Although the Leith family was very powerful, neither Gideon nor the Old Master and Old Madam would go against the law for her if she had committed murder.
Nell gave Jean a small pat on her back. “Don't worry, you didn’t kill him.”
“Huh?”
Gideon was taken aback but he also began to understand what she was hinting at.
He turned to the bunch of burly men. “I assume we have no issue with calling the cops?”
The men looked back and forth at each other, the guilt in their eyes was very telling.
They roared, “Absolutely not! What happens on the streets stays on the streets! Calling the cops? Bullsh*t! Either you pay up or this woman doesn't go anywhere. A life for a life, so don't you think any of you are leaving just like that!”
Gideon’s face turned cold at that.
Mr. Donnelly was afraid that a fight might break out, so he tried to be the peacemaker.
“Ah everyone, please. Please hear me out. This really may not be Miss Leith’s fault, you never know right? Your friend got into a fight last night and it was really brutal, I just noticed that the back of his head has a huge bump and that might be what caused the blood vessels to swell. He was fine yesterday and it only triggered today which caused his death! This is possible and it had nothing to do with Miss Lieth. Besides, she’s a weak and small girl, and your friend is a Taekwondo champion, surely a small push from her couldn’t have killed him!”
The gang became even angrier at that. “What? Are you saying you won’t pay?”
Mr. Donnelly may have spoken up too daringly but he was still just a humble businessman.
The moment the gang intimidated him, he shrank back in fear while smiling awkwardly.
“That’s not what I meant! It’s just…”
“That’s enough! Either pay through your pockets or pay with your life!”
Gideon finally understood what was happening. These thugs never wanted justice. They just wanted a nice sum of money.
Since that was all they wanted, there was no hurry.
Gideon helped Nell over to the sofa that Jean was sitting on and kept an eye on them as he spoke.
“You want money? Fine. Bring your boss out. I’ll talk to him.”
The gang froze for a moment.
To think that Gideon Leith was still so calm in such a situation.
The men exchanged glances with suspicion in their eyes. Right then, a carefree voice came from behind them.
“So who’s lookin’ for me?”
The crowd parted like the red sea and a young, handsome man strode in.
The gang members who had been acting all high and mighty instantly bowed in respect, yelling, “Boss!”
The man waved them off and looked at the pair on the couch before a bright smile broke out on his face.
“Deon! Fancy seeing you here!”
