Since Benedict’s men were not the only ones who were watching them, as Gideon’s bodyguards also had their eyes on them, running was not an option.
The bodyguards that Gideon brought were completely different from Jean’s.
Hers were normal bodyguards but Gideon’s were trained to fight on a battlefield.
The aura they gave off was different from the underground fighters.
It was the kind of aura one would get from a cold-blooded killer who had returned from a bloody war.
They invoked fear just by standing there.
In this kind of situation, fighting them was impossible, let alone escape.
Very quickly, Benedict suggested something.
Given that they were still his men and he could not bear to kill them, he suggested that they all apologize to Jean and break one of their arms to stop them from fighting ever again before letting them go.
Jean was just a regular girl, so the thought of witnessing something so cruel immediately turned her pale.
She was not the kindest person but she had never seen anything like that either.
Following a scream from outside, she asked in a weak voice, “Nelly… that… Isn’t that too much…?”
After all, the truth was out and Jean stood to lose nothing.
Nell simply said, “Aunt Jean, they’re all fighters who have the ability to bully others. They are also extremely manipulative. Not only do they lack compassion but they also used one of their own men’s death to plot a scam. We came here to figure out the truth and because of your status and identity, you’re safe. But what if it was someone else? If the target was a normal person, do you think they could have walked away from danger like you? Would they have had a chance to clear their name?”
Jean fell silent.
At this point, Nell looked back to Benedict.
“The strong should not bully the weak. When they do, the heavens will rightfully impart karmic justice upon them. Isn’t that right, Mr. Canterwich?”
Of course, Benedict understood that she was just putting him down.
With that, he smiled helplessly. “Of course, Mrs. Leith.”
Nell then turned back to Jean and whispered, “If they’re not punished they will do it again, and someone else will get hurt. If you don’t do this then the next victim will suffer.”
Only then did Jean understand and so she nodded.
“You’re right, this is simply too much! We cannot just let it be.”
Nell smiled lightly.
Then she continued, “Besides, it’s just an arm and not their life. If they really wanted to turn over a new leaf they can go to the hospital and then find other work as long as it’s not fighting. I believe Mr. Canterwich is a very caring man who won’t just leave them to starve. You’ll find them some nice simple jobs won’t you?”
Benedict was flabbergasted. He thought that Nell had only guessed their motives for this incident.
