Damon did not know when he finally fell asleep, but he instantly regretted doing so. As soon as he closed his eyes, all he could see was that contorted figure of that demon cackling loudly about the thread of fate.
"I will come back for you." Its shrill voice echoed in his mind as a vague pain spread somewhere deep inside him. Damon tossed and turned, unable to sleep and yet unable to wake up from the dream.
However, in the middle of this madness, suddenly an unexpected light shone brightly. Damon felt a nourishing warmth wrap around him. It was gentle and soft like a woman’s loving embrace.
Damon pulled the warmth closer and hugged her tightly. He buried his face into the light, into that warm presence, and the terror ebbed away like a nightmare caught in morning sun. But there was still something bothering him.
He casually pulled aside whatever was bothering him, and the warmth further intensified. He was in heaven, in complete bliss. Surrounded by that wonderful softness, he finally drifted into a peaceful sleep. The best sleep he had had in years.
When Damon finally stirred awake, he almost did not want to wake up from that amazing place. His eyes remained closed for a moment longer as he tried to hold onto the lingering sensation. He knew that it was probably some sort of a dream, so it was useless, but he tried.
Surprisingly, he could still feel the softness?
Wait, what?
He moved his head again, feeling the warm softness on both sides. As he did, his fangs drew a little blood by mistake, and a familiar drop of blood trickled to his tongue.
Damon’s eyes instantly flashed open. How could he not possibly recognize this drop of blood? For that matter, the scent that was now wrapped all around him?
Fucking hell!
He quickly jolted out of bed the second he realized who exactly was lying next to him.
Aurora sat up slowly from the bed, hair a mess of gold, eyes still drowsy and innocent. The oversized white shirt she wore slid off one shoulder, exposing porcelain skin that shimmered faintly with mana residue.
"You bit me in your sleep," she murmured, voice thick with sleep and entirely too satisfied. "It was adorable."
Damon nearly tripped over himself. "What are you doing here?! No—how are you here?! You were not here when I went to sleep! I made sure I locked the—wait, did I lock?!"
He then mentally sent a piece of his mind to that traitorous bastard. ’What the fuck La Rocha? What kind of defense is this? Couldn’t you have alerted me?’
The item spirit only scoffed. ’Aren’t they your friends? How am I supposed to know that she was not allowed? I figured she was a crazed thrall. Don’t you bloodsuckers love making the women drool over you?’
Damon sighed in frustration, deciding to deal with the item spirit later. First things first. He needed to stop this situation from escalating further.
Meanwhile, Aurora casually giggled, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed like they belonged there. "I am sorry. Did I surprise you? I only came by yesterday to make sure you were okay. I mean, when we last met, you looked so stressed. I couldn’t just leave you alone, could I? Besides," her eyes gleamed with dangerous affection.
"You hugged me so tightly. I had no choice but to stay."
