Chapter 2679
Eevonne never expected that she would see a person when she got to Yvonne's parents' house.
"Marcus, you...you're here," Eevonne called out politely. In the past year, Eevonne had met Marcus before, but she hardly met him.
It was not because Marcus was reluctant to come and visit
Yvonne's parents. Rather, it was because Marcus was not in good condition himself either in the past few years. After he lost Yvonne, it was as if Marcus had lost half of his life and he had no energy at all. He also became much older. He has almost already become a workaholic. He just worked every day, and after he came home, he would say a few words to his parents, then lock himself in his room to watch videos of him together with Yvonne and look at her photos.
At first, Marcus came to visit Yvonne's parents very often.
However, every time he came, he would kneel in Yvonne's parents' house and cry. All three of them often cried on each other’s shoulders as well. Later, Marcus felt that that was not a solution. That was because when he was together with Yvonne's parents, they would be filled with sorrowful memories.
Therefore, Marcus hardly returned to the house anymore.
However, Marcus would still come over during the holidays. Not only that, but Marcus would get someone to send money to Yvonne's parents every month. He even helped them to find a caretaker and so on. However, Yvonne's parents wanted to have some peace and quiet, so they dismissed the maid.
Yvonne's parents felt sorry for Marcus as well. They had witnessed Marcus becoming dispirited over the past few years. Every time they thought about that, they would cry. They even comforted and advised Marcus a few times to not wait for Yvonne anymore. They urged him to hurry up and find another partner. They would urge him like that every time. After several times, Marcus hardly came to their house anymore. Especially in the past year when Marcus knew that Kingston's girlfriend, Eevonne, was taking care of the two elderly people, he came over even less. He was simply immersed in his own world of missing his beloved wife.
At that moment, when he saw Eevonne's arrival, his reaction was quite slow.
"Eevonne, you're here?" Kingston asked in a robotic manner.
"Marcus, I don't know how I should comfort you. Kingston has been out there searching for Yvonne. I believe she will certainly be found one day." Eevonne also did not know what to say.
Marcus forced himself to smile. "Eevonne, I feel relieved that my in -laws are taken care of by you. Look, I...I don't have anything to give you. I'm not good with words either. This is one million dollars. It's your compensation. Don't be disdainful towards rich people, alright?"
Upon saying that, he handed a card to Eevonne. Eevonne did not want it. "Marcus, don't be so dejected. Yvonne's parents will also be sad to see you like that. All of you have to pull yourself together and wait for Yvonne to return, alright?"
Marcus nodded. "Alright."
Upon saying that, he got up and looked at Yvonne's parents, and then he said in a deep and spiritless voice, "Mister and Missus Yates, I feel at ease now that Eevonne is here to take care of both of you. I'll first take my leave. I was in a rush when I left the house today, so I forgot my phone at home. What happens if Yvonne calls me and I didn't get to pick up? I'll first return home now."
Upon saying that, Marcus went back absent-mindedly. That phone of his was already a few years old. There were plenty of Yvonne's photos on that phone, so he could not bear to change it. The phone was often broken and it would not produce any sound sometimes. He had to watch over the phone often. He was in a hurry when he headed out earlier, so he unexpectedly forgot it at home.
