Chapter 13
When Marc hurriedly arrived at the apartment, Clarissa was kneeling on the ground, sobbing with her face covered.
“Clarissa.”
As soon as Clarissa saw Marc, she rushed toward him and threw herself into his arms
as if he were her savior, exclaiming, “Marc, help me!”
Marc noticed that Clarissa had a bright red left cheek. His expression immediately
turned cold, and his face was filled with displeasure. He turned to Phoenix and
asked, “Mother, why didn’t you inform me before you came?”
The eldest daughter of the Males family, Phoenix Males, even sitting in a wheelchair, exuded an imposing presence and maintained the posture of an upper–class. Her narrow and sharp eyes resembled Marc’s, and her tone was extremely cold.
“Have you informed me before you divorced and hid your mistress here?”
She was wearing a traditional dress and draped a thin blanket over her legs, which was intricately embroidered by Pearl. The shawl she was wearing was also a gift
from Pearl.
Phoenix raised her hand, and the maid Harper Slater, who was standing behind her, immediately understood and lit a cigarette for her.
Marc frowned. “Clarissa’s health is not good. Please do not smoke in front of her.”
“Is that so?”

Phoenix exhaled a puff of smoke and glanced at the coffee table. “She has stomach cancer and still drinks coffee leisurely. I haven’t noticed anything wrong with her health. On the other hand, Pearl has hypoglycemia, but I haven’t heard you care. about her even once.”
“Pearl again!” said Marc inwardly.
He had a meaningful expression, saying coldly, “I have already divorced Pearl. There is no point in mentioning her.”
Phoenix looked at Marc’s cold and stern expression. Her lips lifted in a mocking manner. “You are heartless, just like your father. If I had known that I would go through so much hardship to give birth to a scum like you, I wouldn’t have given birth to you.”
When it came to his father, Marc tightly pressed his thin lips and revealed a somewhat colder expression.
“If we can’t talk about Pearl, let’s talk about this woman.”
Phoenix took a puff of her cigarette and looked at the woman hiding in the arms of Marc and crying pitifully. She looked at Clarissa disdainfully. “Enough! What are you pretending for in front of me? You have learned all the wrong skills, just like your shameless aunt. You were eloquently arguing with me just now. Why are you acting weak now? Waiting for your man to stand up for you? Don’t forget, he is my son.”
Clarissa was biting her lip. She was furious inside but didn’t dare to show it. She only knelt down with teary eyes from Marc’s embrace, begging Phoenix in a pitiful tone.
“Mrs. Males, I understand that you dislike me because of my aunt’s past conflicts with you. My aunt and Mr. Hayes were truly in love back then, just like how Marc and

I have loved each other for many years. If it weren’t for the family issues we had and your strong opposition, I wouldn’t have gone abroad, nor would I have broken up. with Marc. We would have been happily married by now, and you might have event
held your grandchild in your arms.”
“Humph! What a fancy dream!”
Phoenix could not bear to listen any longer and interrupted Clarissa coldly, “Let me
tell you, even if all the women in the world were to die and my son was to live a
lonely life until he died, I would never let him marry you. Do you understand?”
“The damn old witch!” said Clarissa inwardly.
She clenched her teeth, resisting the urge to overturn Clarissa’s wheelchair. “If it weren’t for her dominant tactics back then, the Santos family would not have fallen into bankruptcy, and I wouldn’t have suffered so much abroad!
“All of this was caused by this woman. I wish I could torture her to death to alleviate the hatred in my heart!” she thought to herself.
Marc reached out his hand and pulled Clarissa up, standing in front of her and facing
Phoenix’s cold gaze. “Mom, I can make decisions about marriage on my own, so don’t worry about it. Thomas, please send my mom home.”
Making a great effort to minimize his presence, Thomas stood aside and approached
to ask Phoenix to leave reluctantly.
“My son has grown independent and is now chasing his mother away. Good!”
Phoenix clapped her hands and sneered, “Son, your father betrayed me back then and caused me to be crippled. If you dare to marry her, I will give you a big gift on

As Marc watched Phoenix leave decisively, his fists slowly tightened by his sides, the bones in his fingers cracking. Suddenly, he slammed his fist against the wall, causing the wall to tremble.
Clarissa was taken aback. “Marc…”
After teaching Tina a lesson, Pearl went back to her room to remove her makeup and take a shower.
