Before heading to work, I dropped my wife off at the library to meet Jamie. Recently, folks from Maplewood Estates have been delivering lunch to Mia every day. Mia pulled Jamie aside and said, "Jamie, you don't need to order takeout anymore. Our chef will take care of your lunch too."
Jamie hesitated, not wanting to impose. "Oh, I couldn't, Mia. Really, it's too much."
Mia waved it off. "My husband used to bring me lunch, and I didn't want him to accidentally scare you. Plus, it's no trouble at all—friends help each other out."
Eventually, Jamie couldn't resist Mia's kindness, especially since all the takeout was starting to take a toll on her. So, she accepted Mia's offer but made sure to bring snacks, gifts, or toys for Mia's kids now and then as a thank you.
Whenever they hit a snag, they'd reach out to Denny, a fellow student at the university.
Denny, always ahead of the game, had already checked in at the university before classes even started. When he found out the two ladies needed help, he hopped in a cab and came over, declaring, "Professor Denny is here, ready to solve your mysteries."
Mia playfully threatened him with a book, making Denny duck with a grin. "Just kidding, Mrs. Cedillo. What can I help you with?"
They spread their notes out for Denny, who examined them closely. "So, neither of you got this?"
Mia nodded, "Yeah, these are the tricky bits we still don't get, even after the videos."
Denny launched into an explanation, "Alright, imagine someone is sentenced to three years for theft, but then it's discovered they also committed a more serious crime, adding another eight years to their sentence..."
They stayed in the library until nightfall. The librarian, noticing their dedication, didn't have the heart to interrupt and even kept the library open an extra half hour, leaving the lights on just for them.
As they left, they thanked the librarian warmly, "Thanks so much, sir."
He waved them off, "No need for thanks. Just study hard and become great lawyers. I'm rooting for you."
