Conner quipped, "Who says we can't browse just because we're not engaged yet?"
Not long after, one of the younger guys burst in, "Boss, we've got a situation. The Dark Web crew is planning to ambush Greg during his transfer to lockup."
The room went dead silent...
Conner was busy on his phone, chatting with a bridal consultant about wedding photo packages.
"Boss?" The young guy, unsure if Conner was paying attention, called out again.
The attendant who’d been shadowing Conner the whole time chimed in, "Shh, the boss is sorting out wedding photos."
The newcomer was baffled, "So, did she say yes to marrying the boss?"
The attendant shook his head, "If she had, the whole of Newtown would be throwing a massive parade with fireworks."
The young guy was still puzzled. Why the fuss over wedding photos then?
Soon, another call came in. The young guy answered, "Hey, what's the scoop over there?" After some back-and-forth, he was at a loss. His boss had only instructed them to keep tabs, not to jump in, and he was itching for orders.
After hanging up, the young guy looked at his love-struck boss and braced himself, "Boss, maybe hit pause on the romance. We've got bigger fish to fry. Greg's been taken."
Conner casually transferred some cash, "Done. Booked ten wedding dresses. Annie's gonna love it."
The young guy and the attendant: "......"
Conner leaned back, picking up a cigar from the table and lighting it up, "How many did the Dark Web send?"
"Six."
Conner blew out a slow stream of smoke, "Any injuries?"
Conner shot him a look, "You think you know my business, huh? If you let your lady hear about this, I'll sew your mouth shut."
Leaning back on the sofa, Conner got comfortable, continuing to smoke his cigar, feet propped up on the coffee table, "What I love about Annie, I can’t really explain. Maybe it’s how everything feels right even when she’s giving me a hard time."
The attendant: "......Boss, do you need a therapist?"
Conner eyed his attendant’s concern, "Believe me, I’ll have your lady give you a piece of her mind."
"Oh, so the boss is gonna rat me out to the lady now."
Meanwhile, down a dark alley...
A black sedan blocked the way, and four rugged guys stepped out. The assassin, realizing the road was cut off, turned to retreat but found another car blocking the escape route, with four more guys getting out, whistling and casually brandishing their guns. "The boss says, 'Our lady's a cop, and we should act decent. But he’s got high standards; he wants to be a good guy. So, let’s keep it clean.'"
