Molly turned to Annie with a grin, "Officer Chapman, before you walk down the aisle, I've got to save you from diving headfirst into a disaster. Do you know my so-called brother? He might seem all polished on the outside, but inside, he's as hollow as a drum. When he tried wooing his wife, he had to come to me for advice, clueless as ever. You'd think asking for help would do the trick, but even after I shared my top-secret tips, he still blew it, utterly hopeless. And that’s not all, he even managed to...”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, what’s all this chatter about? Girl, I'm warning you, my bride-to-be is about to walk through the door. If you ruin this for me, I’ll be knocking on your door for a word,” Conner cut in quickly.
But Molly wasn’t having any of it. She kept talking to Annie, “And his understanding skills? They’re a real concern. I mean, let’s not even discuss the rest. A grown man, and he ends up at the police station because my nephew cried, can you believe it?”
“Sweetheart, Wayne, my little dragon, you're so smart, so understanding, and so cute. Uncle loves you, give me a kiss,” Conner interjected, showering his son with praise to steer the conversation away from Molly’s revelations.
Molly chuckled, “Oh, so my brother is complimenting my son now?”
“Absolutely, Molly, you’ve got a knack for raising them. Look at my little nephew, so calm, doesn’t fuss or cry, doesn’t smile much either, just all soft and adorable,” Conner said, gently touching the baby’s cheek, his affection evident.
Annie laughed, “Quick, pass sweetie over to Molly and Officer Chad before he starts crying from all this attention.”
Molly quipped, “If you'd mentioned that sooner, we wouldn’t have had any issues. No need to dredge up old stories.”
In the parking lot, Conner finally handed Henry over to Molly, his eyes filled with envy. “That’s really something.”
As the Byrne family drove off, Conner held Annie's hand and mused, “If our little tiger could be just half, no, even just a tenth as calm as the little dragon, that’d be perfect.”
Annie giggled, “Sweetie’s just more lively because he’s growing up.”
“Yeah, right. Remember when he got his godfather hauled to the station? He was just a tiny baby then.” That incident had become a legendary blunder among the four brothers.
Annie laughed, “You’re making me miss our little tiger already.”
As they settled on the sofa, Hansen glanced from Annie to Conner, grinning, “So, Annie, Conner, when’s the big day? Hansen is all set to officiate your wedding.”
Conner gave Hansen a mental high-five; his backing was worth its weight in gold.
Annie, clutching the little one, felt a bit on the spot, “Uh, we, we haven’t set a date yet.”
Hansen kept at it, “You’re not getting any younger, and I can tell this girl loves kids. Better make things official with Conner soon, so you can start your own family.”
“Exactly, Hansen, you nailed it. What do you say, Annie?”
Annie shot a playful glare at her fiancé, was he trying to stir the pot? “Haha, Hansen’s got a point!”
