Mia said, “Babe, I’ve got to give you some credit—you’re seriously killing it as a dad.”
“I’d rather know how I’m doing as a husband,” Andre replied, grinning.
Mia pressed her lips together, her eyes twinkling with playful energy. “Hmm… can’t really score that.”
“Oh?” Andre teased.
“Because you’re the best—no one else even comes close,” she said.
Andre laughed, opened his arms, and Mia slipped right into his embrace.
They’d been sitting a while when Mia yawned. Andre stood and called out, “Henry?”
No answer.
Mia tried, “Tiger cub?”
“Mommy, I’m here!” Their little guy came bounding over.
“Time to go home, sweetheart.”
Andre muttered, “Why does he never answer me?”
Mia just smiled. “Because he’s clever—and a little dramatic.” Clever enough to know when Dad uses his full name, he’s probably in trouble. And dramatic because he only wants to answer to cute nicknames—he ignores his real name on purpose.
Sweaty from running around, he let his mom scoop him up for the trip home.
They were supposed to drop Cooper off, but he called his sister. “Hey, you two don’t need to take me home—Dad’s still at the office. I’ll wait for him, and we’ll head back together.”
Andre dropped Cooper off at the Cedillo Group. Henry pressed his face to the window, pointing outside with his tiny finger. “Mommy, I know who’s in there!”
Mia asked, “Who’s working in there, buddy?”
Henry just looked confused by “working.”
She said, “Grandpa’s inside.”
“Grandpa!” Henry shouted through the window, voice as bright as a bell.
Inside the chairman’s office, Aaron didn’t hear a thing.
