"Jade, no need to worry, your company will be just fine. I trust your mom, plus, Mia isn't going to stand by and let your mom's company fall apart." Leo said.
Jade couldn't fathom what the ever-confident Leo was thinking.
Meanwhile, Andre, unable to turn down Mia's insistent invitation, ended up playing hooky with her for a coffee shop rendezvous with Coleen.
Early in the morning, the coffee shop was bustling with students and professionals alike.
The trio sat together.
Without a word, Coleen suddenly got up and knelt in front of Andre.
"Coleen! What are you doing?" Andre gasped.
Her sudden act drew attention from the surrounding patrons. Mia quickly helped her up.
Coleen sobbed, pleading to Andre, "Andre, please, don't take my daughter away."
Andre's face turned steely. Had it not been for the Byrne family's kindness to his sister, he would have made them pay for their action.
"Coleen, you're the ones who took my sister away for fifteen years." Andre said.
Through her tears, Coleen offered, "Andre, I don't want Chade Inc. anymore, I can give it to you."
She pulled out a company transfer agreement from her bag, offering to give Chade Inc. to Cedillo Inc. for nothing. "Andre, I'll give you my company. Just please don't take Jade away, she's my whole world. I can't lose my daughter." She said.
Mia was moved by Coleen's tears, her own eyes welling up. Parental love was a powerful thing. Her own parents would rather upset the Cedillo family than let her marry Andres, a man she'd never met. That was love.
And now, Coleen was willing to hand over her life's work, Chade Inc., to Andre. That was her love for Jade. She regarded her daughter as more important than her own life, willing to lose everything for her.
Mia handed Coleen a tissue, wiping away her tears, "Coleen, Jade is lucky to have you."
Coleen turned to Mia for help, "Mia, you know how much I love Jade, can you help me?"
"Mia, I'm sorry, I can't help you." Mia replied, "You only see your sacrifices and your happily ever after. But you've robbed my husband of his. My husband spent fifteen years searching for his sister, from thirteen to twenty-eight. His mother died of grief. Do you know what he's carrying? Self-blame, guilt and regret.
“The Cedillo family could've had a happy family like yours, but they lost Molly, and his mother passed away. The Cedillo family was shattered. My husband lost his family, his mother, his sister when he was thirteen. Finding Molly has been his only lifeline. You can't be selfish and expect him to give up his lifeline for your happiness. That's not going to happen."
Mia wiped her tears and put the contract back into Coleen's bag, "You value Molly more than your life, so does my husband. Every member of the Cedillo family is waiting for her. Have you ever thought about their feelings? Try to see it from their perspective, Coleen. My husband gave you a month, worrying you couldn't handle it. He's not a saint, and he has no obligation to always consider your feelings. Please don't pressure him anymore, we, the Cedillo family, won't give up." Her emphasis on "we, the Cedillo family," clearly stated her stance.
Coleen covered her face and sobbed, the once elegant CEO now just a helpless woman.
Andre, watching Mia stand alongside him, felt warmth in his heart. He couldn't say some things out loud, yet Mia, who understood him, spoke for him. In that moment, Andre felt at home.
Mia continued, "Coleen, I'm Jade's friend. I've been worried just like you, afraid that Jade's identity would rob her of a happy family. I even fought with my husband, had disagreements and unpleasant moments. But I never considered it from my husband's and the Cedillo family's perspective. Your happiness is built on the Cedillo's family's pain. And the Cedillo family has no reason to suffer for your happiness. Jade is an adult, she has the right to know everything, and the choice is hers. If we truly love her, we should respect her decision."
Mia had been told by her husband to not reveal the truth to Jade for a month, giving the Byrne family some buffer time. Thus, Mia had been keeping the secret, not even telling Leo.
The biggest fear for the Byrne family was that Coleen wouldn't be able to handle the truth. Now that she knew, there was no need to hide anymore.
