Coleen continued, "The chairman of Ashford Inc. is a real go-getter. I've dealt with him before. He's a stand-up guy, and he ain't gonna pull a fast one. He invited me just for some friendly professional exchange, nothing sneaky. It's just been misunderstood by his employees."
"But, how can you be so sure that the chairman of Ashford Inc. didn't do it on purpose and then throw his subordinates under the bus?"
Coleen just smiled, not giving a straight answer.
After the incident last time, the chairman of Ashford Inc. showed up at her house with an apology gift in the evening.
Firstly, out of professional respect, he felt guilty. Secondly, it was Coleen's husband and son who kept him on his toes.
After the secretary left, Coleen's phone rang again. She was swamped every day, but this call was from her sister, Saul's mother. She picked up the phone and said, "Hey sis."
"How are you holding up health-wise? Saul mentioned you're not doing so hot, seems like you've been visiting the hospital quite a bit. If you're not feeling well, take a break and let Saul handle the company stuff. You can trust him."
"Saul is blowing things out of proportion. It's just benign breast lumps; at our age, it's normal to have some health hitches. No need to make a mountain out of a molehill," Coleen replied.
The other side nagged a bit more before hanging up.
After hanging up, Coleen frowned. She dialed her secretary and said, "Let the president of Ashford Inc. know that I'll be attending their opening with my daughter."
"Sure thing, president."
Thinking about her sister's call and Saul's recent behaviors, she dialed the finance manager, "Come up for a bit."
…
In the evening, Coleen drove home to find her husband and son discussing work. When she walked in, they paused their conversation. "Mom, have you eaten?" Chad asked.
Coleen nodded, "I ate with my colleagues. Have you and dad eaten yet?"
Chad also nodded.
She dropped her bag and sat on the couch, "Molly was asking about you this morning. Go see her if you have time tomorrow."
"I talked to her until she fell asleep last night. What could she possibly be missing me for?" Chad chuckled.
Whenever it came to his sister, he always lit up.
Coleen was a bit tired and sat on the sofa with her eyes closed for a while, "Chad, don't work with relatives and friends in the future."
"That's not for me to decide. Mom, what's wrong?"
Mr. Kendrick also looked at his wife curiously.
Coleen sat up, and she began chatting with her husband and son about daily life."I've been going to the hospital a lot recently and somehow Saul caught wind of it. He's trying to meddle with the finance department. A marketing manager wants to manage my finances? He's got his hand in the cookie jar.
“This afternoon, my sister even called to suggest that I let Saul run the company. It's all dressed up as concern for me, but really she just wants her son to get his hands on the company.
