Andre turned around. He put his arm around his wife’s shoulder. After ending a call with his father, he led Mia to a nearby seat, leaning in to whisper in her ear, “Just pretend we didn’t see them.”
Mia opened her mouth to utter a surprised “Oh,” not quite understanding why. But if her husband asked her to do so, she would ignore them without question.
Later, it was Tom who, while strolling around, suddenly found himself crossing paths with Mia again. Quickly, he led the girl in a different direction, away from Mia. The girl was clueless about what was happening. She was feeling a bit under the weather and came to the hospital for a check-up. She couldn’t understand why Tom was leading her in a roundabout way, when the doctor’s office was straight ahead.
Meanwhile, Mia was whispering to her husband, “Honey, who do you think that girl is carrying? Whose baby could it be?”
Andre took a deep look into Mia’s gleaming eyes, which were filled with curiosity. Her eyes were blinking as she pondered the mystery.
Andre replied, “It’s none of our business, so let’s not dig into it.”
Mia pouted, “I’m just curious. Do you think she’s carrying... No, that couldn’t be. I mean, she’s not blind. Why would she be with an old man who could be her grandfather? Maybe it’s the chauffeur’s baby, but it doesn’t look like it. They seem so distant. But she couldn’t be Finley’s daughter-in-law.”
Lost in her thoughts and unable to figure it out, Mia was on the verge of pulling her hair out in frustration. Andre pulled her into his arms, resting her head on his shoulder, and chuckled, “Thinking too much can lead to hair loss.”
Mia teased, “Are you saying dad thinks too much?”
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear. Hansen took another elevator and arrived a little later. Upon his arrival, he heard his daughter-in-law asking if he was overthinking things.
“Mia, how am I overthinking things?” he asked.
Mia couldn’t tell him the truth.
“I was just praising you to my husband for being clever and wise, maybe a little too wise,” she said.
Hansen nodded, “Well, that’s a compliment I can accept.”
Hansen sat next to Mia and looked at her, “You saw Tom earlier, didn’t you? Why didn’t you say hello?”
Mia replied, “Oh, so his name is Tom. Well, I’m pregnant, and I’m not sure I could take him in a fight, so I didn’t dare to approach him.”
Hansen looked at his daughter-in-law and smirked, “You make it sound like you could take him on if you weren’t pregnant.”
Mia retorted, “Well, who knows?”
Tom took the girl to the doctor’s office and hid around the corner, spying on the trio. He thought he had gone unnoticed, and he was the one who had spotted them first. However, Mia quietly informed her father and husband, “Tom is spying on us. Should I turn around and make eye contact with him, just to scare him?”
Andre said, “Don’t cause any trouble.”
Mia playfully complained, “Honey, you’re such a killjoy.”
Mia continued, “If Leo and Molly were here, we would not only scare off the peeping Tom, but we would also strike up a conversation with that girl. Since Tom mistakenly thinks we don’t know their secret, we could deliberately talk to the girl and make Tom panic. Then we could let slip a few things to see her relationship with the Walton family.”
“When I stay with you, you always sense the danger and stop me from doing what I want. You just want me to be an obedient robot. I can assess the risks myself, but you just don’t trust me.”
Andre replied, “You scared me before.”
Hansen was seriously considering his daughter-in-law’s words. “I think Mia has a point.”
Both Andre and Mia turned their attention to Hansen.
