Upon the break of dawn, Molly was stirred from her slumber by a buzz alerting her to a lengthy text message from Chad. After reading it, her heart soared, and became bright and clear as the sunny skies outside her window.
Chad apologized for his recent distance, due to the heavy responsibilities that came with his new position. He assured her she was always his number one. He promised her a cross-country road trip to any destination of her choosing once his work had settled down.
His affirmation, “I’ve been neglecting you,” tugged at her heartstrings. It made her feel loved, cherished even, in a special way.
Meanwhile, Chad had practically taken up residence at the police station since his discharge from the hospital. In the morning, the Calder Corporation submitted evidence of previous fraudulent activities by the Marshal Group. In the afternoon, Jillian made her first appearance in days.
She was taken aback by her father Brian’s completely gray hair. “Dad, how did this happen?” she asked.
After being detained for so long, Brian seemed to have sobered up. He asked his daughter, “Did you get it?”
Jillian knew he was referring to the ten million dollars. She nodded tearfully.
“Leave the country and don’t come back,” Brian advised, relieved. His final act of fatherly love was to bear the brunt of all the charges, ensuring Jillian could get away with the money.
She felt utterly helpless as she watched her father being taken away. It was presumably for her to see him for the last time.
She had gone to the Cedillo Inc. to plead with Andre to save her father, but she wasn’t even allowed past the front door. She then turned to the Cedillo family, hoping that Hansen would help. Hansen agreed to meet her out of respect for her love to her father. Meanwhile, Naomi took Mia out to hang around.
Mia was puzzled, "Naomi, are you guys doing something behind my back?"
Hansen told Jillian, "Ask your father to tell me who instructed him to trick me with a fake body back then, and I'll save his life."
When Jillian went to find her father again, she didn't know where he had been taken. The next time she heard from her father was when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Jillian was struck dumb, and she sat on the ground, not knowing what to do. Later, she disappeared.
The more power you hold in your hands, the more conveniently you can get things done.
Back at the police station, Chad was dealing with Brian’s case. He had a private meeting with Andre in a quaint little cafe, surrounded by the peaceful chirping of birds. Andre suggested that Chad should pay a visit to the Ashford family.
Chad was no fool. He didn’t drink the coffee Andre had poured for him. "The clues on Officer Rubin were provided by you, and you guided me to take down Brian, a business celebrity. Now you want me to investigate the Ashford family, I have to doubt, are you using me as a pawn?"
"That sounded unpleasant, but we could just say we share the same stance and have common enemies. For the public interest, you investigate them as it is your duty as a law enforcement officer. For the private interest, he's after our mutual sister
“The photo I sent you that day showed Jack meeting Finley's driver. Finley is very likely the one behind the Marshal Group, or even," Andre's brows suddenly became serious as he spoke with an icy tone, his eyes flashing with cold light, "the mastermind behind the incident sixteen years ago."
Chad's hand tightened around his tea cup, "Is there any evidence?"
"There's a motive."
Chad and Andre spent two hours in the teahouse before going their separate ways. Chad, along with his team, went to the Ashford Inc. to investigate Jack’s whereabouts on the previous Tuesday night.
Considering the special identities of the two, Jack lied, "I was resting at home that day."
