Mia’s culinary skills were being questioned and despised. Unable to swallow the humiliation, she began a culinary crusade to redeem her tarnished reputation.
Her family forbade her from entering the kitchen, but they failed to restrain Mia, who found great joy and amusement in the kitchen every afternoon. Soon, one by one, they started calling Andre, pleading him to find a solution and curb his wife’s culinary antics.
Andre pondered a bit. “Just give her whatever seasoning she asks for.”
Everyone was speechless. “Aren’t you going to do something?”
Naomi, seeing a pregnant woman spending all day in the kitchen, started to worry. She tried to persuade Mia to join her for prenatal exercises, but Mia simply told Naomi that Naomi could use some exercise.
Naomi also privately spoke to Andre, “After all, the kitchen is a dangerous place, with potential hazards like water, fire, electricity, and knives. Mia listens to you the most. Why not suggest her to try a different hobby?”
Andre said, “Messing around in the kitchen is better than causing trouble outside. She knows when she shouldn’t be in the kitchen and would run away at the drop of a hat. Plus, she’s currently smitten with cooking. If I kill her passion now, she might get upset and go back to her parents’ house, and I’d have to coax her again.”
Naomi fell silent. That did seem to make sense.
Andre added, “In a while, Leo and Molly will be back to school, so she’ll be alone at home. If she wants to cook as a pastime, let her be.”
With her husband’s protection, no matter how many people wanted to keep her out of the kitchen, no one dared to say a word to Mia.
Backed by a powerful supporter, Mia, pregnant and empowered, ruled the roost. No one could dampen Mia’s enthusiasm for cooking!
Andre’s indulgence towards his little wife eventually backfired. At 10:30 AM, his little wife arrived with a lunchbox, announcing the start of his lunch break. “Honey, this is a love-filled lunch I made just for you. Try it and tell me if it’s good.”
Andre glanced at his watch, and cleared his throat slightly. “Darling, isn’t it a bit early for lunch?”
Mia said, “Not really. If you round up, it’s almost 11.”
Andre was frustrated but dared not show it. Since Mia had made it herself, Andre couldn’t disappoint her. He thought his wife’s “love-filled lunch” would at least have a heart-shaped fried egg, or perhaps a heart drawn with ketchup?
However, Andre was shocked to see the content in the lunchbox. What was this brown rice? Why was there soup in the rice? Where were the veggies? Was he expected to just eat rice?
Staring at it, Andre was a bit hesitant.
Yet Mia was eagerly waiting for her husband to taste the lunch she had prepared with love.
“Mia, why is the rice brown?”
“I added sauce to it.”
Andre asked, “And the veggies?”
Mia replied, “Why do you need veggies when you have sauce?”
Andre was speechless.
Mia happily said, “This is my own creation.”
Andre suddenly felt like a leader, questioning his wife as if she was a subordinate. He prodded the rice with his spoon. Not a single vegetable was in sight. “There must be a reason for this innovation. Why would you create a dish like this?”
When it came to the reason, Mia had a lengthy explanation. “Honey, do you see how busy everyone is at work these days? They don’t have time to cook. Some people even skip meals due to lack of time, leading to stomach problems. The convenience meal I’ve created involves just steaming the rice, adding some sauce for flavor, and it’s ready to eat once cooked. No need to wash or cook vegetables. That’s wasting time. It’s simple, convenient, quick, and saves time.”
After explaining, she felt incredibly smart.
At that moment, Andre finally felt his wife was normal again. The saying “pregnancy makes you stupid” was proving true on her.
“Mia, if they need to cook for themselves, what’s the use of the canteen at my company?”
