Mia heard him, but she deliberately chose not to respond.
After she left the bedroom, Andre sat brooding on the couch, slouched against the cushions, feeling utterly helpless.
The couple had exchanged a few sharp words, and just like that, Mia stormed off with their child in her arms.
A little while later, fearing Mia might pull a dramatic exit and leave for good, Andre, unable to shake his concern, hurried out to find his wife and child.
In the living room, Mia sat fuming on the sofa, holding their baby close.
The butler was busy checking the wedding gifts from the Byrne family, while Naomi was occupied with moving these gifts to the storage room.
Leo had vanished again. It was just Mia, with her slender frame, holding their plump little guy who was blissfully asleep, the picture of contentment.
When Andre sat beside her, Mia sensed her husband's presence but said nothing.
It was Andre who broke the silence. "Was it really necessary to get so worked up and come down here with the baby?"
He turned to take their chubby son from her—holding the little guy could be quite the arm workout.
He felt sorry for her aching arms, but Andre wasn't the type to openly express his mushy feelings.
Mia held onto their son, unyielding. "You, the big CEO, think I'm making a fuss over nothing? Would you be happy if I started on you?"
After speaking, without sensing any hint of an apology from Andre, Mia stood up and stormed out once more.
Andre was left alone in the living room, sighing to himself. He had inadvertently stepped on Mia's last nerve, but at least this time she didn't run straight back to her parents' house.
He got up, and in the short time he had been lost in thought, he realized he had no idea where his petite wife had taken their son.
Back in the bedroom, Hansen was ruminating over his regrets. He concluded that acting on impulse was indeed the devil's work.
Now that the Byrne family's gifts were accepted and the money exchanged, his daughter's marriage was all settled.
Scratching his head in frustration, he muttered, "How did I agree to this so absentmindedly? Couldn't I have kept a cool head?"
Hansen left the room, glancing over the wedding gifts from the Byrne family with a growing sense of unease.
Later, he found solace in the quiet sanctuary of his late wife's memorial room.
Andre, a busy man with urgent matters at the company, paused outside the memorial room when he heard his father's voice. He stood by the door for a moment, listening to the old man reminisce about his beloved wife. "Darling, do you think Chad will treat our girl right? He seems like a decent young man, but... I just can't shake this unease."
Andre lingered briefly at the door but then continued on to his study.
Mia had gone to the storage room.
When feeling down, it helps to surround oneself with valuable things.
She hadn't properly inspected her best friend's wedding gifts, so there she was, baby in arms, taking it all in.
Naomi was still inventorying when she saw her sister-in-law. "Mia, Henry's asleep. Why didn't you put him down?"
Mia glanced at the chubby little fellow. "I've gotten used to holding him. He cries the moment I put him down, so I just keep holding him."
She didn't let on about the quarrel with her husband, so Naomi suspected nothing.
"Naomi, are all these gifts from Molly going straight to our family?" Mia asked.
Naomi explained, "They're here temporarily. When Molly and Chad eventually get married, these gifts will be returned to her as part of her dowry."
Mia suddenly remembered her own wedding. If her memory served her right, her parents had also given her the wedding gifts. At the time, she hadn't paid much attention. Confused, she asked, "Naomi, my parents gave me my wedding gifts too. Why would they return them to me?"
Naomi clarified, "Those gifts were for you and Andre to use in your own household. Wedding gifts are traditionally for the bride. Your parents didn't use them; they gave them all to you two. The same will happen with Molly's; our family won't use her wedding gifts. When she marries, they will all go with her as part of her dowry."
Mia seemed to grasp the concept.
