The morning was lively, the kind of chaos only a close-knit family can create.
But whenever the mother-daughter bond took center stage, Kendrick and Chad felt like they were intruding.
Not long after, Molly announced with a yawn, “Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, I’m super sleepy. I’m heading to bed. Don’t wake me up for lunch.”
As she climbed the stairs, Chad’s eyes followed her until she disappeared around the corner. “Molly!”
She looked back, slightly annoyed, “Yeah, yeah, I got it. I won’t walk into the wrong room.”
She passed by her old bedroom and headed straight for the master bedroom.
Chad turned back to his parents with a chuckle, “Mom, let Molly rest for a few days. When she goes back to work, let’s ease her in gradually, no need to throw her into the deep end. She’s under a lot of pressure.”
Coleen, proud of her daughter, replied, “When I was in the hospital, she handled everything from the ground up. Meetings, records, you name it.”
Chad insisted, “It’s different now. Her mindset is different. Rotating roles will only benefit her.”
Coleen’s dream of retiring early seemed to be on hold.
Later, Chad returned to the bedroom, finding Molly still asleep. When she woke up, she was startled to find Chad shirtless, “Chad, wake up! Why on earth aren’t you wearing a shirt to sleep?”
He sat up, the blanket sliding off, revealing his toned muscles, “It’s more comfortable this way.”
Molly, trying to ignore his defined abs, fetched last night’s pajamas and threw them at him, “Wear something to bed from now on, or I’m not sleeping here.”
“Tonight, then,” Chad replied, slipping into his casual grey home wear, “Let’s go grab some food.”
Molly nodded, “You go ahead. I’ll change.”
