Early the next morning, Anya’s suitcase was set by the door, with Naomi’s beautifully wrapped gift perched on top.
Hansen was reluctant to see his family leave. “Anya, make sure you video call Grandpa when you get home. Come back early once the holiday is over.”
Anya nodded. “Grandpa, make sure you go to bed early and don’t stay up late playing video games. It's not good for your health.”
Hansen stubbornly replied, “Grandpa doesn’t play.”
Andre also chimed in, “Listen to your parents when you get home. If you want to come back, we’ll come to pick you up.”
Anya, with her backpack on, took one last look at her family sending her off, her gaze lingering on Henry with reluctance. “Henry, sister is leaving now. I will miss you.”
Henry yawned cooperatively, then flopped his head onto his dad’s face, showing off their close father-son bond.
“Auntie, make sure you send me lots of baby videos.”
Mia pointed at her son, “Why don’t you take him with you?”
Anya: “...Okay.” She was actually about to reach out and pick up the baby.
Bruce laughed. “Mia, don’t joke about that.”
Mia laughed, “Big brother, I’m just kidding. Don’t worry, your little nephew isn’t going anywhere. If Anya took him, she’d have to bring him back crying before even getting on the highway.”
Just before leaving, Anya got her wish to hold Henry for a while, gently kissing his little cheeks several times, her eyes locked on the adorable little bundle in her arms. “Sister Anya has to go now. I’ll miss you.”
Henry stuck out his tongue, looking obediently at Anya, then turned his head to watch his parents.
Since Leo was coming back in the afternoon, he drove to the doorstep, and everyone went out to send Anya off. Upon seeing his uncle holding the baby, Leo felt inexplicably nervous again, “Uncle…”
Andre, looking at Anya, reminded her, “Drive safely.”
Everyone knew who that advice was really for.
Anya was sitting in the passenger seat, but the real driver was often the one being reminded to “drive safely.”
Anya was caught between her uncle and boyfriend like a “shield,” “We will, Uncle. Don’t worry.”
Seeing his brother and sister leave by car, Henry also wanted to go out and make a scene.
“Ah~ Beep beep, ahh, Dad mmm” Henry’s gaze followed Leo’s car as it drove away, the little guy wishing he could sprout wings and fly after it.
Andre gently turned his son’s face back toward him. “Let’s go back inside.”
“Wu~ Wu wah, beep beep Dad wah” No sooner had Henry been carried back inside than his cries could be heard.
His mouth wide open, his eyes squeezed shut.
His mother, curious, pulled her father-in-law aside to ponder. “Dad, have you noticed my son always cries with his eyes closed, but where do the tears come from?”
Hansen thought his daughter-in-law raised a very good question, also looking puzzled at his little grandson’s crying face, wondering, “Yeah, where do they come from?”
Naomi came over to look at the crying little bundle. “Maybe there are so many tears they just overflow?”
Andre wiped his son’s tears. “Don’t cry, Daddy will take you out to play this afternoon.”
Henry continued to cry.
Eventually, Grandpa pushed the stroller, taking him to the lawn to watch the morning’s sprinkler show, which slowly calmed Henry’s cries.
Leo parked the car by the roadside in the city center, unbuckling his seatbelt. “Stay in the car, don’t move. I’m going to buy something.”
