Before the results even came in, Mia, who was fearless and bold, was gently rubbing her son's tiny head while washing his hair. She was also playfully brainwashing him, saying, "Listen, son, when your dad gets old, don't let him have it too easy. You’ve got to stand up for your mom and show him who's boss. Isn’t he always bullying us at home?"
When Andre overheard this, he turned on his heel and walked away, missing out on the news of his sister's pregnancy.
Later that night, Mia was cuddling her sweet-smelling son, fresh from his bath. Henry always came out of his mom's care like a peeled egg—smooth, white, and oh-so-delicate. When she handed him over to her husband, Andre just nudged him back.
Mia teased, "What, you want some peace and quiet and don't need us anymore?"
Andre replied, "If he’s not going to let me have an easy life when I’m old, why should I love him now?"
Mia chuckled, "Caught you eavesdropping, huh?"
Andre got up and headed to his study, leaving Mia and Henry exchanging glances in the big living room.
"Son, your dad can’t be hitting a midlife crisis already, can he? He’s only thirty."
Noticing Andre’s sulky mood, Mia and Henry flanked him in bed that night, squeezing him in the middle.
"Our first family meeting is officially starting!" Mia declared. "Husband, wife, son—everyone’s present. Who's going to speak first?"
Andre just looked at his young wife.
Mia quickly climbed onto him and planted a kiss on his cheek. Their son, wanting in on the action, hugged his dad’s face and gave him a little nibble too.
After the son's kiss, Mia aimed for Andre’s lips, but Henry wasn’t having it. The little guy sprawled across his dad, using his chubby face to block his mom, only allowing himself to give kisses.
"Henry, you're nibbling on Dad again!" Andre laughed, scooping up his little bundle of joy and tossing him playfully to the side of the bed, a tiny bite mark left on his nose.
The family meeting hadn’t even started, and the little guy’s antics had already gotten him a gentle spank.
Amidst the giggles and howls, Mia announced, "Well, the first family meeting was a bust."
Later, in the quiet of the night, Mia spoke softly, "Honey, do you think you’re overprotecting me because you love me so much? You want to keep me safe from any danger or conflict, right?"
Andre kept his eyes closed, saying nothing.
Mia snuggled against him, claiming his arm as her pillow. "Molly said today that if you saw us out in the sun, it would break your heart. You, a busy man, drive me everywhere, and even when you can’t, you’re restless until you call to make sure I got there safely."
"You think I can’t manage without you, that life would stop, and I’d be helpless and get bullied?" she asked.
Andre slowly opened his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing charmingly as he swallowed.
Mia knew she had hit the nail on the head.
His excessive love and care made him overly cautious. He could let his nephew roam freely, but he couldn’t bear to let his wife face any hardships.
"You weren’t really mad this time, were you? It was just a misunderstanding, and I upset you again, didn’t I?"
"Smart cookie," Andre admitted.
"Well, I have to be smart to be Andre's sweetheart, right?"
Andre finally smiled, "Who says you’re my sweetheart?"
"Pfft, everyone at the police station knows Andre has two treasures, and I definitely outrank the little guy you’ve only known for a few months."
Andre took a deep breath, "Sometimes, that’s just how it is with couples. A little miscommunication, and we start arguing."
Mia felt content. "You’re already so good to me, honey. If you were any less fiery, the company wouldn’t respect you like they do. You just scare me a bit to keep me in line but never really punish me."
