Anya zipped past, pushing the cart while keeping her ears tuned to the conversation. The young woman, not yet married, voiced her concerns, “When do you think is the right time to start a family?”
Molly chuckled, “Whenever it feels right. My sister-in-law and I just went with the flow. If a baby came, we welcomed it; if not, we enjoyed our freedom. Trust me, when it happens, Leo will be there every step of the way.”
Anya’s cheeks turned a shade of pink. “I’m still young; it’s not really on my radar yet.”
As the trio strolled into the mall, Molly noticed Mia still cradling her little one. “Hey Mia, why don’t you put him in the stroller?”
Mia shook her head, holding her baby tighter. “I feel safer this way.”
The baby clung to his mom’s neck, and Anya looked eager to hold him. Mia reassured her, “You can hold him later, Auntie.”
Molly busied herself picking out gifts, while Mia browsed for something special for her son. Anya, pushing the empty stroller, alternated between handing Henry snacks and offering him his sippy cup.
Meanwhile, lurking in the shadows, a group of people followed them, keeping their eyes on Molly. “Is that her?”
“Yeah, that’s Chad’s wife. Just had a baby. We followed her from the hospital,” Taylor stepped forward, her eyes fixed on Molly with venom.
“Who are the other two women?” a man asked.
Taylor shrugged, “Doesn’t matter. We’re here for one person. She’s messed with our operations too many times. We’ve got our escape plan ready, so let’s give Chad a parting gift.”
“What about Gregory’s mom?” the man pressed.
Taylor sneered, “Betray us, and there’s no happy ending.”
She leaned into the man, slipping a dagger into his waistband. “Gregory was just a fling. You know who my heart belongs to. After this, we’re out of here. We’ve got more than enough to enjoy life.”
The man held the dagger, “Let's wait until they’re somewhere quieter.”
“With more people around, it’s easier to disappear,” Taylor countered.
“But it’s also easier to get caught.”
Taylor insisted, “If you take down Chad’s beloved, you’ll be a hero in our circles. He’s been a pain for too long. Plus, I’ve got our exit all planned out.”
Buoyed by her confidence, the man moved toward the trio.
Molly held up a bracelet and a charm, asking Mia, “Which one do you think makes a better gift?”
Mia turned, spotting the knife tucked in the man’s coat.
In a flash, as the man lunged at Molly, Mia turned swiftly, shielding Molly with her body. When the man drew his knife, Mia, unable to fight while holding her child, kicked instinctively.
He sidestepped, revealing he had some training.
He then aimed for Molly.
Mia stepped in, taking the blow meant for Molly.
