Mia quickly tugged her husband by the arm, "Babe, let's step outside for a chat."
Out in the yard, Mia started explaining the whole situation. "…No one saw this coming. Molly's pregnant, and her husband isn’t around. She's already feeling down. Please don't blame her, and don’t get mad, okay? Otherwise, she'll feel even worse. I thought someone was targeting our son, so I held onto him the whole time. I didn't expect it to be Molly. If I hadn't been holding your son today, I would have decked the guy."
Andre gave Mia's hand a gentle shake, teasingly, "With those tiny fists of yours? You think you could actually knock someone out?"
Mia nodded confidently, "Yep, my fists are a lot stronger than they look. You have no idea how tough your wife really is."
Andre held her hand, caught between frustration and amusement.
Just then, the hospital results came in.
Mia led her husband back inside.
"Was it Officer Chapman who started it?" Easton asked.
Annie shook her head, "It was Mrs. Cedillo."
Easton responded, "Almost hit a major artery; could have led to serious blood loss."
Mia glanced at her husband and stuck out her tongue, a bit sheepish. "I had no choice. The guy seemed trained. If I hadn't stabbed him, he might have gotten up and taken hostages. The security guards are great at keeping order but not so much at catching people, so I had to make sure he stayed down."
Andre looked at his feisty little wife, amused by her logic.
"Who hit the woman?" Easton continued.
Both Mia and Annie raised their hands.
Andre looked at Mia, thinking: What did she get into this time?
"Who kicked the ribs?" Easton probed further.
Mia quickly withdrew her hand, deflecting, "That wasn’t me. I just went for the head."
Annie raised her hand, "But I didn’t kick. I just threw a few punches."
Easton announced, "A few punches and you broke her ribs."
The police station buzzed with murmurs of disbelief. The new female officer was turning heads.
Mia admired Annie, a woman who could match her in a scuffle.
Easton followed up, "Mrs. Cedillo hit the head, right?"
Mia nodded obediently, insisting she only gave light taps, nothing serious.
"Concussion."
Mia exclaimed, "…Is her head that fragile?!"
After speaking, Mia noticed her husband's steady gaze and hung her head, mumbling, "I really just tapped lightly twice."
"Yeah, sure, both of you 'lightly' acted. One broke ribs, the other caused a concussion. Lucky it was a criminal. If it were someone else, one of you would be handing in your badge, and the other would be behind bars," Easton balanced his praise with a hint of reprimand.
Meanwhile, Anya texted her boyfriend after Leo got off work, and he rushed to the police station, "Anya."
"Chad." Anya stood up and dashed towards Leo, throwing herself into his arms.
"Were you hurt?" Leo immediately checked.
Anya whispered, "Auntie got hurt."
Leo noticed the man he feared, as Mia tried to get his attention. Her husband simply wrapped her in his arms, blocking Leo's view, "Stand properly."
