When Gunner said that, the entire private dining room went silent. Someone nudged him and said, "Gunner, quit yapping! Go get Veronica back! We, as men, shouldn't be fighting with women, right?"
Gunner, a bit loose from the alcohol, was having none of it. "I was just messing around with a lady. Veronica hasn't said a peep, so what gives Eloise the right to judge me? Who's backing her up to speak so recklessly?"
The atmosphere got even more tense.
Amid the silence, Harvey chuckled quietly, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and then got up. "I'm out of here!"
Someone immediately tried to stop him. "Attorney Horigan, don't leave. Gunner's just drunk and talking nonsense. Let's have him apologize to you, okay? Can you just let it slide?"
Harvey smiled, looked at Gunner, and casually said, "You just asked who's backing Eloise. Let me tell you, it's me, Harvey. Eloise is mine. I wouldn't even raise my voice at her. Who do you think you are to criticize me?"
Gunner was dazed by Harvey’s outburst.
Harvey sneered. "I didn't even want to come to this dinner. The only reason I did was because Eloise and Veronica are close. Since you won't go get your own wife, then I'll take Veronica home for you."
And with that, Harvey really left.
There was a long silence in the room after he left. Someone patted Gunner's shoulder. "You should apologize to Harvey, Gunner. You need to reflect. No matter how tempting those women are, they're just messing around with you. You can't take your feelings for them seriously. That Ravenna has a really bad rep. You can't hang around with her too much. If you screw up, won't we all be laughingstocks?"
Gunner wiped his face. He sobered up, hesitated, and then asked. "And what about Harvey's feelings for Eloise?"
Was he just messing around with her? It was a well-known fact that Harvey was a workaholic. People thought he didn't want to get married, so naturally, Gunner didn't believe Eloise could really win Harvey's heart.
Someone chuckled. "We don't know if Harvey and Eloise will end up together, but he clearly has feelings for her. Have you ever seen Harvey embarrass someone in public? Have you ever seen Harvey defend a woman like that?"
Before the sentence was finished, Gunner had already rushed out. In the end, he found Eloise and Veronica in a bar, but Harvey was nowhere to be seen.
Gunner was pissed! He fell for Harvey's trick. But since he was there, he couldn't just leave Veronica. He walked over and patted Veronica's shoulder. "Can't you talk to me at home if there's a problem? Why do you have to talk to your friends? Isn't that embarrassing?"
Veronica was washing her face. She froze when she heard her husband's voice.
Gunner awkwardly said, "I've said it before; I'm just messing around with other women. Your position as my wife won't change."
Veronica, her eyes red, slowly finished washing her hands. She calmly said, "We'll talk at home. I have friends here; I don’t want to embarrass myself."
Eloise was worried about her, so Veronica forced a smile. "Eloise, as long as you don't look down on me, that's enough. Let's have dinner sometime; consider it keeping me company."
Eloise was heartbroken. She wanted to tell Gunner to treat Veronica better, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.
With his constant infidelity, how could they have a good marriage?
Eloise drove home. She was in a bad mood; she sat in the parked car downstairs for a long time before turning off the engine and going upstairs.
Despite it only being 9 o'clock, Harvey was already home.
He was sitting on the sofa watching TV, seemingly waiting for her.
Eloise looked up at him.
Harvey patted the empty spot next to him, motioning for her to come sit. Then he asked, "Ms. Laurent, what's wrong?"
Eloise moved over next to him, looking quite docile.
Harvey had actually heard her conversation with Gunner. He found that Eloise had many faces. She often looked flustered, and her heart raced when facing him, but she was very assertive towards Gunner.
He found this fascinating.
He originally planned to celebrate her birthday on Saturday and then spend a cozy evening together.
But now he was looking forward to spending time alone with her even more.
He took Eloise's arm, pulled her onto his lap, had her wrap her arms around his neck, then closed his eyes and gently kissed her cherry-like lips. Although Eloise seemed reluctant at first, Harvey knew her body well. He gently caressed her, and after kissing her, he naturally moved to her beautiful neck, making soft kissing sounds.
Soon, Eloise couldn't help but surrender.
Their clothes were scattered on the floor.
