Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 141

Eloise was feeling down.

"I'm going to downstairs for a bit," she whispered.

Harvey just watched her silently. After a moment, he muttered, "Eloise, I'm sorry."

Harvey averted his eyes and lit a cigarette.

About 20 minutes later, a delicious smell wafted from the kitchen. One whiff and anyone would know it was Eloise's handiwork.

Harvey stubbed out his cigarette and headed for the dining room.

Eloise served him a bowl of pasta.

Just as she was about to leave, he grabbed her hand, "Stay with me."

Eloise shook her head, her voice stern, "Harvey, I wouldn't be here if you weren't injured!"

She seemed calm, perhaps because of all the tears she'd shed at night. So when facing him, she seemed numb, the pain not as intense.

Harvey's gaze became blurry.

He didn't force her, but without her by his side, he had no appetite and quickly finished his meal.

Eloise fetched a blanket from the guest room.

Pointing to the couch, she said, "I'll sleep here tonight."

Harvey looked at her intently, "You can sleep in the master bedroom! We've slept together before, and I won't do anything!"

But Eloise didn't trust him so easily.

She knew Harvey's desires ran deep, and if they lay together, he'd definitely lose control. Besides, they were over so there was no need for further entanglement.

She calmly rejected him, "It's better if we keep our distance."

At this point, Eloise was genuinely exhausted. She wrapped herself in the blanket and soon fell asleep on the couch.

He walked into the bedroom, fetched a duvet and threw it over her. Although Eloise didn't wake up, she instinctively pulled the duvet tighter. Her body looked especially frail.

Harvey thought about the alcohol she'd consumed that night and felt a pang of guilt.

Did he make her life too miserable?

Would she rather accompany someone else for a drink, chasing a chance that might not even be there?

Harvey walked into the study and made a call.

The person on the other end was Vanessa.

Vanessa was polite but a bit distant, "Attorney Horigan, what can I do for you at this hour?"

Harvey held the phone, his voice especially cold in the night.

"Ms. Vanessa, are you in need of students?"

"Of course! We always are!"

Harvey said calmly, "I'll be introducing a student tomorrow. Let Ms. Laurent teach her."

Vanessa was a bit surprised and intentionally asked.

"Is she your child?"

Harvey chuckled lightly, "Ms. Vanessa, have you ever seen Eloise pregnant? It's just a relative."

Vanessa thought to herself, what a cheeky bastard!

He looked so proper in magazines and newspapers, but he's such a libertine in private!

But regardless, no one would reject money. Vanessa proceeded to inquire about Eloise's situation.

Harvey gave a vague response. "Eloise is asleep from exhaustion."

The following morning.

When Eloise woke up, Harvey was already up and about.

His wound seemed to have healed. He sat in the dining room, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.

He was dressed in a dark grey shirt, paired with a dark slim tie.

He's just as handsome as usual.

Eloise was a bit surprised.

Harvey looked at her and softly said, "You're missing a button on your blouse."

Eloise looked down. Her light champagne colored blouse was missing the third button.

Because she was sitting, the blouse naturally fell open, revealing a bit of her cleavage.
