When Eloise glanced over, Veronica truly wished she could disappear without a trace. How was she supposed to know this big shot would show up out of the blue? It was not like Harvey was a big fan of Gunner.
Out of guilt, Veronica had seated Eloise far away from Harvey. But Harvey's behavior...
Just as Eloise had taken off her coat and sat down, Harvey walked over, lifting his chin slightly. The people around Eloise wisely made way. Harvey brazenly took a seat next to Eloise.
Their past relationship was known to nearly everyone in the room, so they all fell silent. Yet Harvey seemed quite at ease. He lounged on the couch, casually asking Eloise, "How've you been?"
Eloise, staring at the LCD screen, tried to chat with him in as relaxed a manner as possible. She didn't want to appear petty, which would make him think she was not over him. "I'm doing okay."
Harvey smiled slightly. "As long as you're okay. Then our breakup was a wise decision."
Eloise didn't respond. Seeing Harvey again, she still had feelings for him. She didn't want to say much to him, his gaze was too sharp, and she was afraid he might discover something.
Later, the people in the circle started messing around. Harvey joined in the fun, and Eloise sat there checking her phone, vaguely hearing them play Truth or Dare, and some girl boldly confessed her feelings to Harvey. Needless to say, she was rejected.
Eloise felt bored, especially sitting next to Harvey, she felt uncomfortable.
Just as she was about to go to the bathroom, a phone rang in the room. It was Gunner's. The call was from Ravenna Sartin. It kept ringing until Gunner picked up.
In such a situation, Veronica couldn't lose her temper. Seeing her still trying to maintain the relationship, Eloise sighed lightly and asked her to come to the restroom with her. They went to wash their hands together.
After some consideration, Eloise quietly asked, "Have they been in contact all this time?"
Veronica's eyes were red. She took out a slim lady's cigarette from her bag and lit it with shaking hands.
She took a deep breath and looked at Eloise. "Gunner is a jerk. He bought an apartment for Ravenna and is keeping her there. I've checked the bills, and he spends two to three million on this woman every month."
……
Eloise didn't know how to respond.
Veronica laughed carelessly. "Gunner and I have reached some kind of agreement. I leave him alone, and our relationship is actually not bad. He's even more generous to me. Eloise, don't follow my example, you deserve a man who truly loves you."
Eloise lightly patted her shoulder, "Whatever happens, you can count on me."
"Definitely," Veronica smiled, fist bumping her shoulder.
Then Gunner came over with his phone, looking a bit awkward. Veronica sneered, "Gunner, you're seriously going to be with her on our anniversary? Is she that precious to you? You probably haven't seen how she seduced Max Velona."
Gunner just quietly looked at Veronica.
Veronica was beautiful, but too noble. They had been married for two years, and she had always refused to have children, fearing it would ruin her figure. Ravenna was different; she was willing to have his children. Ravenna announced that she was pregnant and had started craving salty food. It must be a boy.
No matter what happened, he had to be by her side. Gunner didn't dare to reveal the real reason, he simply made up an excuse, "There's an emergency at the company, I'll be back soon."
Veronica obviously didn't believe this reason. But she couldn't keep him, even on their wedding anniversary, he didn't want to stay with her. Veronica felt utterly desperate.
She stared at her husband. Finally, she asked, "Gunner, are you really going?"
Gunner guiltily responded.
Veronica suddenly chuckled, she elegantly adjusted her hair and said, "Alright, off you go."
Gunner immediately dashed into the elevator, eager to leave.
When he left, Veronica's lips began to tremble, even her whole body was shaking uncontrollably. "Eloise, how did he become like this?" She asked.
Eloise softly asked, "Are you planning to divorce?"
Veronica, with red eyes, shook her head. Then she took out her phone and dialed a number. "Riley Colman, I'm at the club. I've had too much to drink, can you take me home? Yeah, Gunner is with someone else, I'm alone."
Eloise felt a chill run down her spine. She grabbed Veronica and asked, "What are you doing?"
