This party was exceptionally lively.
The banquet hall could accommodate 200 people and was packed with a variety of dishes. Vanessa, the host, even invited a well-known MC from Peterborough, which made the atmosphere absolutely cracking.
As one of the partners, Eloise couldn't avoid the booze.
Veronica helped her to stop drinking a lot.
Afterwards, the two girls went to the restroom to touch up their makeup.
Eloise looked at Veronica with concern, "You drank quite a bit back there. Are you okay?"
"No worries! What could possibly happen?" Veronica winked mischievously, deliberately pulling her neckline lower for a flirtatious hint, "Sexy, huh? Riley Colman loves it. He's like a wild dog in bed, biting all over."
She chuckled as she spoke.
But Eloise knew she was hurting inside.
Veronica hadn't moved on from her marriage with Gunner. Her sexual escapades were just a numb to her pain, and the emptiness she felt when she woke up was unbearable.
Eloise patted her gently, "Veronica, you're drunk."
Veronica flicked her hair and smiled, shifting the conversation to Eloise's love life.
During Angus Laurent's hospitalization, Veronica had visited him and ran into Harvey.
She had known then that Eloise and Harvey were still in touch.
She asked, and Eloise didn't hide it, whispering, "We are not back together, it's just a physical thing."
Veronica went quiet for a moment, then dropped a bombshell on Eloise, "Joan is getting married! The wedding is in a few days, and the Horigan family has all gone to Britain for the ceremony, but Harvey didn't, probably to avoid any drama."
After hearing that, Eloise was stunned.
She really didn't know about it. Veronica was drunk and started crying on Eloise's shoulder.
"Eloise, it seems like we can't control our own feelings."
"Yeah, we both fell for the wrong guys."
...
Veronica was disappointed in Gunner, and Riley was just a bedmate in her eyes. But after spending enough time in bed with someone, feelings inevitably develop.
She didn't want to get emotionally involved, but she felt like she was losing control.
With teary eyes, Veronica said, "Eloise, I'm a mess now, but you should get married properly."
Eloise knew she was drunk.
To avoid causing a scene in public, Eloise picked up her phone and called Riley. Initially, he thought it was Veronica and blurted out, "When are you coming back? I'm playing poker, bored and unlucky, losing a ton of money."
Eloise spoke softly, "It's Eloise. Veronica is drunk. Can you come and get her?"
Riley immediately dropped his cards.
"Where are you guys? I'm on my way."
Riley arrived quickly. He was dressed impeccably, emanating a young-rich-kid vibe, complete with the scent of a woman's perfume.
Eloise felt a bit uncomfortable.
But Riley was very friendly when he saw her. After taking Veronica, he spoke endearingly, still treating Eloise as Callum's woman.
Eloise responded indifferently, "Callum and I are no longer in relationship, so drop it."
Riley looked at Eloise and smiled.
He didn't mention what Callum had done at home, after all, you don't air dirty laundry in public, but he still managed to crack a joke or two.
"Whether you choose Callum or Harvey, you're family to me!"
Eloise calmly replied, "You don't need to worry about my business."
She turned to Veronica, her voice softening, "You should treat Veronica better."
Riley was slightly taken aback.
In his mind, Veronica was clumsy, and Eloise was cold and not very sociable. He didn't expect her to care about Veronica so much.
Riley sighed, taking Veronica away.
...
After sending Veronica off, Eloise went back to wash her hands.
She was worried about Veronica.
The Gunner family was notorious, and Riley had some spoiled-rich-kid habits, but even so, she hoped he could protect Veronica.
Eloise stood alone by the window in the hallway, looking at the night view of Peterborough.
Tonight was Christmas Eve, and the whole city was buzzing with excitement. But... there were still many people with no place to call home.
Harvey called at this time.
His voice sounded particularly gentle in the cold winter night.
"Do you need me to come up?" he asked.
Eloise didn't want to rely on him too much, nor did she want to mix her personal life with work. She spoke softly, "Wait for me a bit, stay in the car."
Harvey chuckled.
Eloise blushed slightly, attributing her flushed cheeks to the red wine.
By the time she went downstairs, it was almost 10 o'clock.
Harvey's golden Bentley was parked in front of the hotel. He stood under the street lamp, unusually without a cigarette in his hand.
His elegance attracted many female gazes.
Eloise walked over to him.
Harvey held her tight, whispering, "I've been thinking about you all night."
Such sweet nothings were irresistible to any woman, including Eloise.
She looked up, her eyes moist.
Harvey held her, opening the car door for her with one hand.
The car was warm, and Eloise naturally took off her coat once inside. As she placed her coat on the back seat and turned back, she saw Harvey's deep gaze.
"What's up?"
...
Harvey caressed her body, his voice a little husky, "You really have a great figure without the coat."
Eloise blushed.
Harvey's voice was gentle, "I heard from Denise that Angus has been discharged."
Eloise nodded.
She wanted to thank him, but Harvey gently placed his finger on her lips.
"Tonight, we just have a date!"
Eloise leaned back in her chair, gazing at his handsome face... Harvey had been holding back for a long time, and tonight he was definitely going to spoil her rotten!
