Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 198

After Eloise finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end.

They could hear each other's faint breathing, and gradually, Harvey's breaths grew heavier.

But in the end, he simply said, "Okay."

He suggested they meet at a French restaurant that night, but Eloise refused. She spoke softly, "Let's talk in your office."

Harvey remained silent, clearly rejecting her proposal.

Eloise needed his help, so she compromised, "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Eloise was in a daze for a long time.

She was well aware that if she got involved with Harvey again, she'd have to give something in return for his help. Perhaps he had already set a trap and was waiting for her.

Harvey, the man she could never truly move.

Because of her preoccupations, Eloise was distracted all day.

When Dwight walked in with the reports, he was all smiles. He threw the papers onto the table and said, "I must say, that new guy Carter you hired is quite impressive. He's great at his job and doesn't demand a high salary. I didn't know you had the makings of a capitalist."

Eloise browsed through the reports, her expression indifferent.

Dwight plopped down on the desk, observing her intently. "Why aren't you happy with the profits rolling in? Why is it so hard to please you, woman? Are you lacking some TLC? How about I satisfy you? I guarantee you'll never forget it, and you would instantly forget about that Horigan."

Closing the report, Eloise said, "Deduct $5000."

With a squawk, Dwight asked, "What for?"

"For harassing your boss."

"Darn! How many young ladies would kill for me to harass them, and I don't even bother."

Eloise ignored him. She took a cigarette from him, lit it, and let it burn silently on the desk as she stared at the glowing tip, lost in thought.

Dwight knew something was bothering her.

"A woman like you shouldn't be inhaling secondhand smoke.

Got something on your mind? Why not do it with me? I promise you'll forget all your troubles."

Eloise asked him to leave.

Dwight left in a huff, expressing his indignation, "I was just worried about you. Don't be ungrateful."

Eloise looked at him calmly, "I heard you were partying until three in the morning and came in an hour late today, Dwight. If this happens again, don't bother coming in."

Dwight was feeling guilty.

He did go out partying last night, but it wasn't his fault. Ever since he arrived in Peterborough, he had been very abstinent. Besides, facing Eloise's cold face every day, he was getting bored.

After partying last night, he felt energized.

He stammered, "I didn't have to go... it was... it was just like that. Nothing exciting."

Eloise didn't care about his personal life, as long as it didn't interfere with his work.

She didn't ask him to accompany her to the French restaurant that night.

Eloise got out of the cab, and Harvey was waiting for her at the entrance.

The restaurant had a romantic ambiance, and he was dressed formally in a black shirt, a dark gray tie, and a black, handmade three-piece suit. His broad shoulders and slim waist made for an attractive figure, not to mention his air of elegance. Everyone passing by couldn't help but steal a few extra glances at him.

Eloise couldn't help but take a deep look at him, before quickly looking away.

Harvey walked over to her, his gaze intense, "Why didn't you let Dwight drive you? If it's inconvenient next time, I can pick you up."

Eloise wanted to reply 'there won't be a next time', but considering the favor she was asking, she swallowed her words.

She forced a smile, "A taxi works just as well."

Harvey didn't say anything more and led her inside.

He had reserved the entire French restaurant, presumably for a quiet conversation. But instead, this made Eloise feel more pressure. As she sat down to order, she softly said, "You don't need to go to such lengths."
