The next afternoon, Eloise got discharged from the hospital. She held her phone tightly, debating whether to call Harvey or send him a message to say thanks.
After a bit of hesitation, she decided to ditch the idea altogether.
Eloise completed the discharge procedures, grabbed her luggage to head home first, and then planned to return to the Crescendo Sound Workshop later that afternoon to get back to work.
As she walked out of the inpatient department, she bumped into some familiar faces at the entrance. It was Max's mother, Aliza, and his sister, Olga.
They were carrying bags full of imported fruits, talking while walking, seemingly on their way to visit Orlena. Seeing Eloise, everyone felt a bit awkward.
Eloise gave them a slight nod, ready to leave. Aliza stopped her, speaking kindly, "Eloise, I have something to tell you."
Olga tugged at Aliza's sleeve, whining, "Mom, Max already broke up with her! What's there to talk about?"
Aliza was very shrewd, knowing everything about her son's affairs. What she wanted now was to keep Eloise away from Max to avoid ruining his happiness.
Aliza sent Olga away first. Reluctantly, Olga stomped away.
After Olga left, Aliza switched back to her friendly demeanor, "Eloise, considering our relationship, I should invite you for a coffee and a chat. But Orlena's parents are coming today to discuss her and Max's wedding date, I really can't spare any time."
Eloise felt a chill in her heart. Once upon a time, when the Velona family was in trouble, Eloise dipped into her savings to help them out. Aliza had repeatedly declared that Eloise was the only daughter-in-law of the Velona family, and she would never let Max off the hook if he wronged her.
In such a short time, Aliza had completely changed her attitude towards her.
Eloise smiled faintly, feeling the smile was somewhat superfluous.
