Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 37

Michelle was fighting back tears, struggling in pain.

"Eloise, you can't be with this jerk! How am I supposed to explain this to your dad?" Michelle said.

Footsteps echoed from outside the door, and in walked a few uniform-clad figures.

Michelle was taken aback. But then she yelled, "I'm the one who hurt Max. Come get me! Take me away! I'm ready to go to jail for a lifetime! Just leave Eloise alone. Max, I beg you, don't touch her!"

Michelle collapsed to the floor, covering her face. She hated herself for being powerless, impulsive, and most of all, for letting her anger towards Max drag Eloise into this mess.

The people who walked in were taken by surprise. Looking at Max, they asked, "Mr. Velona, what’s going on here?"

Max gently took Eloise's hand and pulled her to sit next to him, with Eloise trembling all over. He was slightly annoyed. Was she that afraid of him? But since Eloise was somewhat relenting, Max decided to offer some comfort. Holding a tissue against his stomach, he said casually, "Things got a bit messy just now, and I might have accidentally hurt myself. But our company has surveillance, and even though it's currently malfunctioning, it'll be fixed in a couple of days. I'll show you the full video then."

The cops knew it was just a love feud. They asked a few questions and left shortly after.

Eloise was still trembling. She knew Michelle was safe for now, but with the surveillance in Max's hands, he could turn her in at any moment.

The office was eerily silent and terrifying.

Max looked pale as a ghost. He turned his head to tell his secretary to get the car ready, then gently lifted Eloise's chin, "Will you come to my villa tomorrow night?"

Eloise's eyes were vacant.

Max pulled a smile, "Play the piano for me then."

Eloise didn't respond, but Max didn't mind. He just wanted her by his side. He was confident that with time, she'd return to her obedient self. She’d better forget her flirtatious relationship with Harvey.
