They asked for two rooms, one for Scarlett and Viviana, and one for Rowan and Yair.
The room was dirty, and the bed was covered with dust. Scarlett and Viviana didn't want to sit on it so they wiped the wooden chairs and sat down.
Just now Rowan was beside them, so
Viviana didn't ask Scarlett about Pearl. " Scarlett, did your mother have a hard time when she was a child?"
Scarlett took out the disposable cups that she had just bought and poured a cup of water for Viviana. "Mom rarely talked about her childhood."
That was true, but Scarlett was smart. She realized something after going to Kyleigh with Pearl.
Scarlett picked up the cup, drank some water, and smiled slightly at Viviana. "But I think Mom was unhappy as a child. When I was in elementary school, Mom would sometimes tease me that I couldn't even cook noodles. She said when she was as old as I was, she had learned how to cook."
Although Pearl was smiling when she said these words, Pearl's husband always gave her a hug after she said something like this.
At first, Scarlett was puzzled. Gradually, she understood that her father was comforting her mother.
If Pearl had had a pleasant childhood, why would her husband have comforted her?
Pearl said that she had learned to cook. Scarlett could imagine that Pearl had suffered a lot after being abducted at 10 years old. Before that, Pearl was living in a rich family and didn't know how to do housework at all.
30 years ago, most people were still very poor. The Booker family bought Pearl but was not rich. Kyleigh might be good to Pearl cause she didn't have any children back then.
