Scarlett glanced at the number on her cell phone, got up and went to the floor-to-ceiling window. She dialed the number.
She couldn't get through to this number for the first and second time, so she dialed it for the third time tirelessly.
Darnell’s life had been tougher than ever recently. His family had suddenly gone bankrupt and was in debt to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. In the past few days, debtors had been at his gate asking him to pay every day.
His newly married wife had taken all the gold bars and some cash from his home, and his cars had been towed away to pay off his debts.
In spite of all this, he couldn’t pay off the debts. The unpaid workers were at the gate of his villa every day, and loan sharks were calling him one after another.
This was the third call from an unknown number. Darnell thought it must be a debt collector's call, and he instinctively wanted to slam down his phone, so that he could worry less.
However, while he was looking at the number on his phone, somehow he answered the phone.
He didn't know why he was expecting a little bit that this was a call from his wife who had run away with the gold bars and the money.
However, the fact made him very disappointed. The woman on the other end of the phone had a very unfamiliar voice,"
Hello, Darnell, do you remember me?"
After a pause, the woman added, "I’m Scarlett."
'Scarlett!'
'The woman that I had been chasing for two years at university, and that I had been obsessed with but had never got.'
