Tempted Trapped and Too Late to Run novel Chapter 229

As Clara's fingertips were playfully nibbled, his voice still had that sultry, post-sex rasp. “You said you came here with your boss?”

Feeling a bit worn out, Clara yawned. “Yeah, I did.”

“What’s he like?”

“He’s nice.”

“How does he measure up to me?”

Clara’s eyes popped open. The room was dim, just enough light to outline his silhouette. He had an impressive build. She definitely felt lucky.

“No contest. You two are worlds apart. He’s like a snow-capped mountain—cool and distant. You’re more like a vibrant rose, hot and inviting. My boss is someone you admire from afar, not someone you cozy up to.”

“How can you be so sure? Maybe you just don’t know him well enough, like you don’t know me.”

Clara furrowed her brow, cupping his face. “I don’t know you? Well, let me get to know you better over time. How can I if I never see your face?”

“You’ve seen it before. You got pretty worked up and even slapped me.”

Clara sat up straight, suddenly embarrassed. She scratched her cheek, realizing she might have been more hot-tempered than she remembered.

She had just shared an intimate moment with him and then slapped him. No wonder he was so self-conscious.

She felt like a real jerk. What had happened between them that made her hit him? She couldn’t recall.

Taking a deep breath, Clara gently patted his cheek. “Did I slap you here? Does it still hurt?”

“If you care about me, it doesn’t hurt.”

Clara silently berated herself. Clara, what were you thinking? How could you hurt someone so good to you?

She quickly stood up and kissed him twice on each cheek. “Of course I care, but I’ve got to go. I've annoyed my boss lately, so I need to stick around and smooth things over. If anything comes up, text or call me.”

Just as she turned to leave, her wrist was gently grasped.

“Do you think you might get too close to your boss?”

Clara couldn’t help but smile. Was he jealous? Ah, he was like a clingy golden retriever.

“Don’t worry, I won’t fall for him. I just think he’s a decent guy, but he’s not my type.”
