Nancy's heart felt heavy as she heard those words.
That was something she had never expected.
She had thought about leaving him in the past, but she never thought those soft words warmed her heart again.
Charles noticed how emotionally unstable Nancy was.
'Well, this little woman must really love me. Otherwise, why would she react the way she did?' Charles thought.
He reached out his hand towards Nancy. He grabbed her hand and rubbed it. "I'll be fine, dear. You don't have to be sad, okay?'¹ he said.
Nancy nodded and took a deep breath.
"I'm not sad. Your eyes got hurt, so you need to have a good rest. Try to go to bed early today," Nancy said as he prepared a bag of ice.
"I won't feel any pain as long as you are by my side, remember?" Charles pulled Nancy into his arms as he spoke.
"You are hurt, Charles. What are you doing?" Nancy withdrew from Charles' hug. She was afraid that she would accidentally touch the man's eyes.
"I told you, I'm fine." Charles took the ice bag from Nancy and put it away.
Nancy was too nervous to move, even a little.
Charles got close to her and said, "It's just my eyes. I am not hurt anywhere else. What are you so nervous
about?"
Charles poked the tip of Nancy's nose and scraped it gently.
"Whatever, you really need a rest. Do you understand what I mean?" Nancy tried her best to persuade Charles. "If you get too tired, then your eyes will also be tired. I'm your doctor and you're my patient. You should obey your doctor religiously."
Charles didn't know whether or not Nancy was toying with him. He blinked his eyes hard. Surely enough, they were sore and painful.
"Okay, I will do as you say. But you need to stay by my side. I want to hold you!" He then put his hands around Nancy's waist.
He affectionately rested his head on her shoulder, syncing his breath to hers. He held Nancy close to him.
Nancy felt uncomfortable. She yearned for further intimacy. 'How could Charles sleep like this?' she wondered.
Charles actually fell asleep!
The man fell asleep as he held Nancy.
Nancy's body was stiff. She couldn't fall asleep while being held like that.
She decided to move a little. However, even her slightest motions woke Charles up. And so, Charles had held her closely once again.
This time, he wrapped her in his arms even more tightly.
Nancy was speechless. She had accepted that she could not escape.
"Charles, do you want me to sleep or not?" Nancy asked softly.
"Sleep, my sweetheart. Sleep," Charles whispered subconsciously.
Yet his actions said otherwise.
Nancy had no choice but to lean her head on Charles' arms. She closed her eyes and avoided his breath-as that made her loins warm.
The next morning, Nancy woke up with the smell of breakfast in the air.
'Oh, that smells so good!' Nancy thought as she whiffed the scent in.
"Mommy, breakfast is ready!" Nadia said as she ran into the room.
The little girl looked energetic, even though her wound was still wrapped with gauze.
Nadia stared curiously unto Nancy's bed. The little girl repeatedly batted her eyes.
"Mommy, why are there two pillows on your bed?" Nadia asked.
"Oh, well... Because Mommy likes to sleep with a pillow in her arms. That is why there is one more, baby." She had convincingly lied to the girl. However, Nancy could not hide her blush.
"Hi, Winnie. Please come here," Jennie hurriedly said.
"Hello, auntie and uncle," Winnie said shyly.
"Thank you for coming over. Oh, and you didn't need to bring any present, dear..." Jennie said as she placed the fruits on the table.
"Auntie, it's just a small gift from me.” Winnie glanced at Jay as she spoke.
Jay didn't have the energy to speak to Winnie. He had clearly lost a lot of weight since his grandpa fell ill.
Jennie allowed Winnie to stay in the ward for a while. After some time, Jennie returned and said, "Winnie, I think you should head out, dear. It is not safe here inside the ward. We don't want you to get infected."
"Ok, auntie. If you need my help, just tell me," Winnie said thoughtfully.
"Of course, dear. We will,” Jennie responded. She then looked at Jay and said, "Jay, please go and send Winnie off."
"It's alright, auntie. I see myself out," Winnie refused quickly.
Jay frowned out of annoyance. He never understood those kind of things. 'Why do women complicate simple things?' he thought to himself.
"Let's go, Winnie. I'll send you off," Jay said indifferently.
"All right.” After she bid Jennie farewell, Winnie walked out of the ward with Jay.
Right at that moment, Doris arrived.
She hasn't seen Jay for quite a long time. Doris decided to bring some fruits for Landon because it was her day-off.
Winnie found Doris before Jay even did. She stared Doris down with her sharp gaze.
Winnie acted as if she sprained her ankle and shouted
as if she were in agony. She was really selling the act. Winnie clung unto Jay's arm in order to seem more helpless.
"What's wrong with you?" Jay asked confusedly. Jay had never thought that things would unfold that way.
