What Jill desired the most was money.
But she suspected that Charles would lie to her, so she pondered for a bit and said, "Charles, give me the money or else I won't open the door!"
Charles came outside in a hurry. Why would he carry the money with him?
He didn't even bring his wallet.
"I don't have my wallet with me. Open the door first. I promise that I’ll give you the money once I step outside, " Charles exclaimed. He knew that Nancy had a wound on her shoulder, which was getting worse with each passing minute Nancy spent in the basement. It would be troublesome if the wound got infected.
Therefore, Charles' top priority was to take Nancy out of the basement.
"I know you are lying. You won't fool me. If you want to come out, hand over the twenty million immediately. Or else, you and Nancy will die inside!" Jill didn't believe that Charles would hand over the money once he stepped outside. She turned around and left them there.
Charles was anxious.
"Jill, it's only twenty million. Just open the door, and I promise I'll ask someone to give you the money as soon as possible!" Charles yelled.
Jill stopped in her tracks. She didn't expect that for Charles, twenty million were so insignificant.
If she had known earlier, she would have asked for more, at least fifty million.
"Jill, I'm talking to you. Did you hear me?" Charles kicked the door in a fit of rage.
"I want to see the money right now. If you can ask someone, tell them to bring it here, or else, humph!" Jill snorted and left.
She was not in a hurry. She was fishing for something big.
It was not easy to get hold of Charles. Why would she let him go, now that she had him?
Charles called Hiram in a hurry, but there was no signal in the basement.
"Damn it! Jill, there is no signal in the basement!"
But Jill wasn’t there anymore.
Charles had no choice but walk back helplessly.
Curled up in a corner, Nancy moaned, "Oh, it hurts. It hurts! Charles."
Every time she winced, Charles' heart ached.
"Nancy, hold on a little longer. I'll find a way to take you out of this right away!" He looked around and found nothing in the room.
However, a swing board caught his attention.
He walked over and picked it up. "The swing board is made up of Mahogany. It looks old, but I'm not sure if it will do the trick or not,"
Charles murmured to himself, walking towards the window with the board in his hand.
"Swing board." Nancy heard his words and recalled a memory.
When she was quite young, her mother had asked someone to build her a swing in the garden. When her mother wasn't busy, she would accompany Nancy to the garden to play on the swing.
Nancy's happiness knew no bounds when she was with her mother.
But her period of bliss was cut short with the sudden car accident, and then her father divorced her mother. Not long after, Jill married into the Ning family and became their new hostess.
Since then, her mother could only lie in the bed. The happiness she once knew was gone.
After a while, Fannie was born, and Nancy became the redundant one for the Ning family.
