Charles was going crazy with anger. Before Nancy could finish her words, he kissed her hard on the lips.
"Woah... Charles, I hate you!" Nancy tried to kick him away.
But he already held her securely in his arms.
"Bobby, what's going on with mommy and daddy?" Nadia asked curiously.
Melancholic, Bobby replied, "They seem to be quarreling again!"
"Why are they arguing? Doesn't daddy love mommy anymore?" Nadia probed, obviously upset.
"We children don't understand the world of adults, so don't ask anymore!" Depressed, Bobby walked to the dining table. Rubbing his stomach, he said, 'Tm so hungry. I miss uncle Edward so much."
'Tm also hungry. And I miss uncle Edward too, but where has he been?"
"I don't know," said Nadia, stroking her belly.
While the two children were talking, they suddenly heard their father scream.
Bobby instantly jumped up from his chair and ran upstairs. Nadia followed behind him.
"Daddy, what's going on? Are you okay?"
The two kids shouted while climbing up the stairs. What they saw was Charles wiping his mouth and looking at Nancy viciously.
Nancy stood aside and looked at Charles like a proud peacock, her chin slightly tilted upwards.
"Daddy, what's wrong with your mouth?" Bobby asked worriedly.
"I was bitten by a bug just now, but it's okay," Charles replied, trying to make light of the incident.
"Mommy, was daddy really bitten by a little bug? Which bug is so bold to bite daddy?" Nadia asked in disbelief.
"I don't know. Come on. Let's go downstairs.'¹ Nancy grabbed Nadia's hand, and they started walking toward the stairs.
But Charles suddenly took a hold of Nancy's arm. "Nadia and Bobby, you can go ahead downstairs. I want mommy to have a look at my lips first. You see, daddy's lips are bleeding and mommy is a doctor. I need mommy to check up on me!"
"Okay!" Bobby nodded and held Nadia's hand. "Nadia, let's go downstairs.”
He pretended to concur though he couldn't understand why his mommy and daddy both seemed indignant.
The way their parents were behaving made him a feel a little scared.
"Okay, Bobby. If you say so!" Nadia walked toward Bobby obediently.
The two kids went downstairs.
Nancy stared at him. "Charles, are you done?"
"I think I should explain to you that the woman you saw in MX Coffee Shop with me is a translator. There is nothing going on between us," Charles explained in a soft voice.
Nancy didn't say anything, but tears fell from the corner of her eyes.
Charles lowered his head to avoid eye contact.
"You know, Nancy, I love you. And I will love you for the rest of my life!" He had been suffering a lot these days.
Especially at night when he lay alone on the big, empty bed. All he could think of was the warmth of holding Nancy in his arms.
He missed her so much that he would seek her fragrance from the pillow she had slept on.
"Then why are you mad at me for no good reason? Charles, don't lie to me anymore!" Nancy pleaded.
"I'm jealous, suspicious... You and Edward..."
Charles said painfully, reaching out his hand to touch Nancy's little face.
Nancy had been longing for the warmth of his hands touching her, but she still felt aggrieved.
She worried that Charles didn't love her anymore. Because if he did, how could he ignore her?
