"Don't worry. I will get the evidence!" Charles pronounced each word hard. A gloomy shadow was spread on his face.
Everyone was quiet.
"Alas! Let me tell you. Charles is bewitched by Nancy. She lived with Edward. However, the heroine only returned five years later. Can you believe that?" Joseph continued to fan the flames.
Charles remained calm. He pulled Nancy close. "Yes. I am bewitched by her, and I will be for the rest of my life!
Everyone was even more shocked at his words. Was this the same Charles they knew?
He should have been the angriest of all to find out that Nancy once married someone else.
Following his terrible temper, shouldn't he tell his staff to take Nancy away as soon as possible? His behavior at the moment was surprisingly mild and different from what people expected.
How could he say he still loved her after everything she had done?
The journalists were getting increasingly puzzled.
"Mr. Charles, you may want to take extra caution. She has been married once!" someone gently commented.
"And who are you to judge my decision?" Charles cast a cold glance at the shareholders and spoke with an air of finality. Everyone fell back in fear.
"No, sir... I wouldn't dare. I was just saying!" the man who spoke replied, fear written on his face.
"Charles, my brother, would you ignore the shareholders ' interests just to be with this woman? You're aware that if the stock goes down, and the shareholders' interests are damaged, the consequences will be dire. Yet, you insist on sticking with your plan?" Joseph didn't expect that the reporters were so afraid of Charles, so he stirred them up.
"But if it weren't for you and your father, we wouldn't have had so much to deal with! You're just looking for a chance to cause trouble!" Charles retorted.
"Brother, everyone knows how smart and calculative you are. But I think you lose those virtues when a woman gets involved. Would I, as your younger brother, ever hurt you? It's plain that I'm out for your good. Instead of thanking me, what do you do? You slander me! You slander me when I'm innocent!" Joseph knew that Derrick was behind it all. But he was unwilling to go empty-handed. That was why he shamelessly talked from both sides of his mouth.
"It's true, Mr. Charles. You can't rush this decision. Look at the evidence first,' someone whispered.
"They're right, Charles. It's better to get the evidence and know the truth on time." Angelina was eager to find out the truth.
Charles drew Nancy closer and said, "She's here. What else do you want to know?"
"Miss Ning, have you been with Mr. Charles for five years? Then, why have you been silent since then?"
"Or is it true what Mr. Derrick said that Mr. Charles just uses you to get our attention?"
"Miss Ning, we demand an explanation. We want it today!"
The reporters teamed up to bombard her with their
questions.
Nancy looked flustered. What happened to her five years ago was a secret. She had no idea that she'd one day have to discuss it with so many people.
What was she going to say?
"It was a mistake!" Nancy said with embarrassment.
Charles could not stand her feeling embarrassed. He held her protectively. "She's the woman I fell in love with five years ago. Do you think she's still married to Edward? Or are you saying that Edward is better than me?"
Charles turned to Nancy and continued, "If you could choose, who would it be? Edward or me?"
