Nancy didn't want to hurt Edward, whether he did it intentionally or not.
"Well, Nancy, you know that I believe you. But the problem is grandpa doesn't trust you anymore. I'm sorry. You know, my mother..." Thinking about his mother upset Charles.
She always caused him embarrassment, but what could he do?
His relationship with his mother was one he couldn't break off. Add to that the fact that familial ties of the rich were complicated and involved too much interests.
But the Fu family owed Nancy this time.
Nancy understood but she smiled bitterly. "It doesn't matter if they believe me or not, Charles. But if there comes a day that it's you who don't trust me anymore, I won't have a choice but to go with Edward!"
As soon as she said those words, Charles covered her lips. "Nancy, don't talk nonsense. I will never let go of you!”
They had already been through so much together. How could she say such discouraging words now?
Driven by his anger and frustration, Charles must have exerted too much pressure on her lips.
Nancy had a hard time breathing.
"Hey... Charles, get your hand off me!" Nancy coughed and struggled slightly.
They were at the stairway connecting the first and second floors. Edwards' room was just around the corner. Any movement by either of the two could be heard from there.
"Edward has fallen asleep by now. Don't worry, okay?" After saying that, Charles passionately kissed Nancy on the lips.
Edward stared at the ceiling with a bitter smile.
He heard every word that Charles and Nancy said.
He had always fantasized about getting together with Nancy. But after hearing this exchange between them, he realized that any chance of marrying her had vanished.
It was not that he didn't want to, but at this point he knew it was impossible.
Nancy didn't know how deep she had fallen in love with Charles.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t display such an intimate moment with Charles out in the open which others could possibly see.
Nancy was not the type of woman who endured and put up with hostile treatment.
But for the sake of love, she still tolerated their abhorrent demeanor toward her, enduring judgment and criticisms other people threw at her.
Love could really cause someone to sacrifice everything.
He could say the same about himself. For a chance to be with Nancy again, he turned away from his comfortable life abroad and went back home by himself, only to get an answer.
Although the answer seemed so hard to accept and was almost unbearable, it was better than not knowing and wondering forever.
It was time for him to wake up!
It was already midnight when Nancy and Charles had finished.
Charles had fallen asleep in no time. Perhaps it was because of a long, exhausting day at work.
Nancy tossed and turned all night. She couldn't sleep because she was worrying about Doris.
The dawn had broken and she was finally about to fall asleep when suddenly, her phone rang.
Doris?
Nancy was startled and answered the phone in a hurry, "Doris, how did it go with Felix?"
Doris was supposed to be very familiar with Nancy's voice, but she couldn't recognize it.
She asked tentatively, "Are you Nancy?"
Startled, Nancy craned her neck and laughed in confusion. "What are you talking about, Doris? If I'm not Nancy, who else can I be?"
