"Of course I'm stupid. If you regret being with, you can still make another choice," said Nancy as her breathing intensified.
She was coming off quite pretentious.
Charles chuckled and said, "I like your silliness."
Nancy turned over with her back facing Charles.
Charles reached out and held her in his arms. "He loves you."
Nancy trembled at his touch, lying silently.
"You know that, right?"
"Yes."
"So, why didn't you choose him?" This was what Charles really wanted to know.
Edward was an outstanding guy, even Charles could admit that.
So why on Earth did Nancy reject him over and over again?
Nancy still didn’t say anything.
"Why are you so quiet?" Charles knew why, but he just wanted Nancy to admit to it.
He raised his hand to touch the back of her neck and pulled her hair.
Finally, Nancy had enough. "I'm a woman with a child. What qualifications do I have to talk about love?"
This was the truth. Although Charles knew it, he was still a little taken aback. "Why do you think so little of yourself?"
"Why not?"
"You are a strong woman," said Charles.
"Strong women just put on a brave face. If they had someone to rely on, they would as much as possible," said Nancy, defeated.
Charles held her tighter, "You can always rely on me, okay?"
Nancy smiled uncontrollably from ear to ear.
Charles was seldom that sweet with her. It came across so awkwardly.
He was probably so annoyed with Edward that he forgot how he usually behaved.
Whatever it was, Nancy loved it.
She leaned her head on Charles's shoulder and asked, "Are you jealous? I think you are jealous of Edward."
"Nonsense! You are mine and the mother of my two children. Why should I be jealous of him? It makes no sense." What a strong man Charles was! It seemed like he had no weaknesses.
"Yes, Mommy of two children," murmured Nancy.
She had never said that, except in front of Frederic.
Charles' heart pumped. These simple words were like love itself. He had never felt so content.
"Honey, don't worry. I'm going to be here for you and the children no matter what."
As the night grew darker, Nancy cuddled Charles tighter.
That night, the two of them fell asleep absurdly late. The next morning when Edward prepared breakfast, they weren't anywhere to be seen.
Bobby and Nadia still made their appearances as usual though.
"Uncle Edward, I saw Daddy's car in the yard. Did he come back last night?" Every day after getting up, Bobby liked to play in the garden and he must have seen his father's car.
"Yes," Edward said as he continued making breakfast.
"Why aren't they down for breakfast yet?" Nadia asked curiously.
"They're probably still tired. They went to bed really late. " Edward frowned.
Last night...
Did Nancy and Charles...
The more Edward thought about this, the more bitter he felt.
"I'll wake them up," Nadia said before running off.
Edward grabbed her and picked her up saying, "Don't go."
