Chapter 112
The room fell into stunned silence after witnessing Elizabeth’s miraculous revival.
Alex reached into his coat pocket and retrieved a small, unremarkable pill, placing it gently between Elizabeth’s lips.
With practiced care, he helped her swallow.
Charles looked like a man who had just watched his entire world crumble.
He had orchestrated every possible detail to hasten his grandmother’s demise and claim the inheritance his father had long denied him.
Yet here was Alex, undoing all of his schemes in an instant.
In a surge of desperation, Charles leveled a furious glare at Dr. Yorck.
Frightened, the doctor realized that if he failed to act, his life would be forfeit.
Slowly, Yorick forced himself upright, eyes alight with rage. He snatched a surgical knife from the nearby tray a Alex.
“Die, you devil!” Yorick shrieked, his face contorted in rage.
“You’ve made a deal with the devil to raise the dead–no human could do what you just did!”
A wave of shocked gasps swept through the room.
Charles’s lips curved into a momentary smile, convinced the knife would sink into Alex’s stomach.
But it didn’t. The knife ripped through Alex’s shirt and stopped cold against his skin.
Yorick stared in disbelief. “What are you?”
Alex’s cold smile never wavered. “Your worst nightmare.‘

Two of Jasmine’s bodyguards rushed forward, wrenching Yorick’s arms behind him. One delivered a punishing blow to his jaw.
“How dare you attack Mr. Alex!” the guard bellowed.
Yorick flailed, shrieking in panic, blood dribbling from his mouth.
“No! It was an accident—I tripped! I didn’t—”
–“His pleas were drowned out by the onslaught of fists.
“Stop!” Yorick screamed. “It wasn’t my idea-”

Yorick’s eyes bulged, then dimmed as he went still.
A hush fell over the room.
Charles straightened, brushing off his sleeve as though he’d simply dispatched a pest.
“How dare he try to kill the one who saved our family? Betrayal like that can’t go unpunished.”
Yorick’s lifeless eyes stared up at him, hatred frozen on his face, but Charles felt only relief.
At least now his secrets would remain buried.
Suddenly, a raspy cough rattled from the bed. Elizabeth’s eyelids fluttered open.

“No, Nana!” Charles exclaimed, hurrying to her bedside.

Jasmine’s eyes glistened. “I won’t, Nana. I promise.”
She wrapped her arms around Alex, clinging to him as relief swept through her.
Alex awkwardly patted her shoulder, still unused to such displays of affection.
