Chapter 182
Florence forced on a syrupy smile for Dr. Foster, then wheeled around to face Alex with fire in her
eyes.
“Dr. Foster, please ignore this piece of garbage. He’s clueless.”

“Alex, shut your damn mouth! You’re trying to sabotage Grandfather’s treatment, aren’t you? Trying to nab the inheritance early? Is that why you’d rather see Abraham die? God, you’re disgusting.”
Alex merely shrugged, seemingly unfazed. “All I’m saying is if Dr. Foster doesn’t even notice there’s poison at play, then yeah, I question his qualifications.”
Dr. Foster’s face hardened, his eyes flashing with indignation. “Boy, do you have any idea who you’re mouthing off to? That kind of disrespect can cost you dearly.”
Alex crossed his arms. “I heard you’re Jonathan Owens’s apprentice–nothing more. If treatment’s needed, it should come from the master himself. You’re still wet behind the ears.”
Florence gasped at Alex’s audacity.
The rest of the family practically bristled with rage, while Charles, standing nearby, offered his own warning. “Alex, Dr. Owens is in seclusion and can’t be reached that easily. Even Dr. Foster respects that boundary.”
Charles shot Alex a knowing smirk.
Alex caught it–and realized Charles was well aware of Alex’s true abilities. Yet Charles was deliberately letting things escalate.
The man was relishing the chaos.
Dr. Foster flung a hand in the air in frustrated outrage. “Mr. Kingston, you personally asked me to come here. Now, I’m being insulted by some two–bit know–it–all. If this is the thanks I get, I’m out of here. Let the old man croak!”
Instantly, everyone clamored in panic.
“No, no, Dr. Foster, please don’t leave!” Florence grabbed hold of the doctor’s sleeve, then shot a venomous glare
at Alex.
“You bastard, quit running your mouth and get lost! You’ve got no right to insult Dr. Foster’s expertise.”
Jack chimed in, pointing angrily at Alex, “Yeah, who do you think you are? Piss off!”
“How can you be so cold, Alex?” another family member snarled. “Do you actually want Old Mr. Lancaster to die, you heartless prick?”
Amid the flood of insults, Dr. Foster raised his chin. “I’ve had enough. Throw him out or I won’t lift a finger to help.”
Florence spun on her heel, still clinging to Dr, Foster. “Don’t worry, doctor. He’ll be gone in a second.”
She glared at Alex. “You heard him. Get the hell out!”
“Get out!” the family echoed in a venomous chorus. “Don’t sabotage Grandpa’s treatment!”
Alex held his ground for a moment, frustration etched on his face. “I’m only trying to protect Grandpa. This man can’t be trusted,” he said firmly.

Sophia, stepping forward, roared, “Shut up! If you can’t do anything useful, don’t make things worse. Get out right now!”
You don’t believe me?” Alex asked, his voice low.
She sneered, her finger trembling as it aimed at the door. “Why would I? You’re a compulsive liar. Leave. Now.” Alex, seeing the seething glares all around him, fell silent for a moment before quietly exiting 1
Once he disappeared down the corridor, the remaining onlookers unleashed a torrent of insults behind him.
“What a nuisance,” someone spat.
“He’s lucky we haven’t kicked his teeth in,” another hissed
Florence patted Dr. Foster’s shoulder, her tone syrupy again. “Doctor, I’m so sorry. That brat’s gone. Please, let’s continue.”
Charles stepped forward, putting on a diplomatic face.
“Vincent, please. For my sake–let it slide this time. Treat Old Mr. Lancaster, and I promise you’ll be compensated handsomely.”
Dr. Foster–Vincent–shot Charles a stern look, then flicked an invisible speck of dust off his coat. “I’ll do it, but only because it’s you asking, Mr. Kingston. Next time, I won’t be so forgiving.”
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and thanked Charles profusely, casting hateful side–eyes toward the hallway where Alex had disappeared.
Outside, Charles sauntered out to find Alex slumped in a waiting chair, arms folded, face taut with anger.
Charles gave a low laugh. “Isn’t the Lancaster family wonderful? They’ve practically rolled out the red carpet for me.”
Alex shot him a deadly glare. “What do you want, Charles?”
Charles leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. “I want to destroy everything you hold dear. Your precious people… even your dear grandfather–in–law’s legacy. He didn’t approve of me being with Sophia, so maybe it’s time he learned a hard lesson.”
Alex’s anger flared, eyes darkening. “You gave him the poison, didn’t you?”
Charles scoffed, feigning outrage. “Me? Poison the old man? Don’t be dramatic.”
He paused, a grin tugging at his lips.
“Though if I did, I’d never admit it. You can keep playing detective, but you’ll only end up hurting yourself. And just look at how easily the Lancaster clan worships me. They think I’m some kind of savior and you’re just the scum on their shoes.”
“You’re a sick man,” Alex snapped, giving Charles a sharp shove that nearly knocked him off balance. “Play these games all you want–but you’ll regret it.”
“Regret? Me?” Charles laughed. “A wolf doesn’t need to kill the sheep when the flock turns o they’ll be the ones to tear you apart.”

stormed down the hall, fists clenched at his sides.
Charles snickered. “Go on, Alex. Struggle all you want. The harder you fight, the more they’ll hate you. I don’t even need to lift a finger to make Sophia despise you your own family does the work for me.”
Meanwhile, back in the ward, Dr. Foster wasted no time. After scribbling on a prescription pad, he thrust it into Florence’s hands. “Get these meds. Hurry.”
Jack raced out, returning in under ten minutes with everything he needed.
Without ceremony, Dr. Foster mixed up a quick dose and forced it between Abraham’s lips.
The watchers held their breath as the old man’s color returned. His limbs, which had been stiff and cold, began to relax.
Relief washed over the room like a tidal wave.
“He’s looking better!” someone exclaimed. “Dr. Foster, you’re a miracle worker!” another added, clasping the doctor’s hand.
