Caspian ordered, "Wait for them to throw down their weapons. We'll then ignore their cries for surrender and open fire!"
"Yes, sir!"
…
Meanwhile, in the Archer residence, one of the senior officers reported, "General, Diatoran forces have ceased fire. We can go out now."
"Alright, I'm coming." Viktor was hesitant, but he had no other choice.
Viktor stepped out of the house with the senior officers following behind him.
"Caspian, I hereby announce that my troops surrender from this war. We hope that you comply with international laws on treating prisoners of war," Viktor shouted.
Caspian angrily shouted, "Viktor, your men have committed countless inhumane acts, from killing, burning, and looting throughout all of Southlake City. I refuse to accept your surrender!"
Viktor and his men were so surprised by Caspian's reply that they became frozen in place.
Both Sylvia and Desmond shouted, "Open fire!"
The enemy troops had just thrown away their weapons and were already gunned down before they could react.
Viktor and his senior officers turned and ran back inside the house.
A senior officer asked, "What should we do now, General?"
Viktor angrily complained, "Caspian, that bastard! I can't believe he actually opened fire at us after we surrendered!
"He's actually going to kill us all! I can't believe it!"
The strategic officer commented, "Does he wish to continue the fight and see more of his men die?"
Viktor explained, "Our troops have already thrown down their weapons. They couldn't even react in time when Caspian's men opened fire.
"We should've never invaded Diatoran in the first place."
"You're right. I can't believe this is happening. We should've been spared after surrendering!"
Viktor frowned as he listened to the incessant chatter of his senior officers.
"It's all your fault for pestering me to surrender! Our reputation is completely washed. And now, Caspian even rejected our surrender and wants to kill all of us!"
Viktor assumed that Ted would be able to get him back to Astronia safely if he just surrendered.
He never expected Caspian to be so vicious as to reject their surrender and kill them all.
A senior officer spoke up, "It's not the time to be complaining. We need to think of a new plan."
Viktor clenched his teeth and explained, "What choice do we have left? All we can do now is fight back and kill as many of their men as possible!"
"But all we can do now is hide behind cover. We don't even have a chance to peek over cover to return fire!"
"Bring me all your grenades! We'll place them at the door and wait for their troops to enter before triggering the explosion. It'll at least guarantee a few deaths!" Viktor decided that he would bring down some of the enemies with him to the grave.
The senior officers looked at each other in disbelief.
They were not afraid of combat on the frontlines, but personally exploding grenades to seal their own fate was still horrifying to think of.
It was too cruel, even as a last resort.
They would not even be leaving their corpses behind.
Viktor was furious. "What are you guys waiting for? Make preparations immediately! We're going to die anyway. We might as well pull some of our enemies down with us!"
The senior officers nodded their heads and began to pool up all the grenades they could find.
They realized that they had no chance of making it out alive.
Bringing along some of the Diatoran troops with them to the grave would be the only positive outcome.
