I closed my eyes again, reaching deeper within myself than I ever had before. There, in a place I’d never been able to access, I felt something respond–a presence stirring, awakening to Kaius’s call.

A strange warmth spread through my limbs, followed by a sharp, soaring pain that tore a gasp from my lips. My bones felt as though they were breaking and remaking themselves, muscles stretching and reforming. My senses heightened suddenly, the forest exploding into vivid detail–scents I’d never noticed, sounds I’d never heard, all rushing over me in a dizzying wave.
