Chapter 348: The war is coming...

Lyla

"Dead serious. Many people think Ramsey is weak and doesn’t know how to decide. You cannot imagine the things he has prepared. He’s so patient that it drives me up the wall a lot of times, and truthfully, he’s the most patient Lycan I have ever seen."

Everything began to make sense "So this battle right now?" I asked.

"I already sent word that there will be a sudden attack."

"But you said you didn’t—"

"I lied," he admitted with a shrug. "It’s strategy, Lyla. The warriors being sent are just a distraction from the real plan."

"But all those people who died. We’ve suffered a lot of losses, Lenny. Ramsey is big on protecting the people and all of that. Why would he do something like that?"

Lenny stared at me for a few seconds and sighed. "In the grand scheme of things, there is no way we can do this without losing warriors, Lyla. To say the truth, the number of casualties we’ve lost is less compared to..."

"That is not an excuse," I shook my head. "People died, they walked into a trap set by their Lycan Leader. I feel so sad thinking of all those innocent lives we’ve lost in the name of strategy."

"What would you have him do, Lyla?" Lenny said quietly. Ramsey didn’t want any of this, but it has to be done. A small sacrifice for a greater good, and all the families of those warriors who died were well compensated, so they do not feel the impact of the loss of their loved one."

"Oh, please," I scoffed. "Money cannot fill the void left by a loved one. My father and I weren’t the best of buddies when he was alive, but his death left an absence in my heart. In Nanny’s, Luna Vanessa, and Clarissa, no revenge would take away the pain."

"I shouldn’t have told you," Lenny shook his head. "Have you ever wondered why Ramsey doesn’t tell you things like this?"

"The same reason I don’t tell him things about me, too," I retorted. "It’s to protect each other. In our quest to protect, we left out the most important thing: communication. These days, we’re doing better. You were going to tell me about the plan?"

I asked, changing the topic.

"What plan?" Lenny frowned.

"How you plan to manipulate the Dark One and his armies. Have you forgotten?"

He smiled slightly. "I can’t tell you that. Ask me something else, and I will answer you, but I’m sorry, I can’t share that information with you."

"Why?"

"Because if he senses you know, he’ll know it’s a trap. You’re more connected to him than any of us, and you’re like an open book. It’s easy to read you. Well, except your mate, he’s blind."

I froze. "The Dark One can sense me? He can read my thoughts?"

"When you use your power, yes," Lenny nodded.

I felt sick. "Then why me? Why not someone else?"

"Because he believes you’re the one who will unlock the Throne," Lenny said. "Neriah was strong, but you were born a promise to us. Your gift is evolution. You’re not just a Moonsinger—you’re the turning point."

I didn’t know what to say.

Lenny stood up beside me, brushing the grass off his pants. "Don’t look so scared, Lyla. We’ve come too far to lose now."

I turned to him. "Are you still passing information?"

He looked me dead in the eye. "Yes. But only what we choose to give. That’s the game now. Feed him just enough... The more he buys into the lie, the easier it would be for him to fall."

I wanted to believe him. I mean, there was no reason not to. Why would Lenny lie to me in the first place? Why would he cook up stories knowing I could easily walk up to Ramsey and clarify them?
