Chapter 174
“Yeah, but nobody likes her. It’s just that we are forbidden from talking about her,” Rene said sheepishly.
Clearly, she was afraid, but Aurora’s presence gave her hope, as she was the only one who seemed to have an influence over the Alpha.
“What do you mean?” Aurora asked, trying to understand it better.
“Her mother is a sorcerer, but whoever speaks about it either goes to sleep and never wakes up or does something strange and ends up being banished. I’m scared I’ll be next if I say it. I don’t have a family here, so I will spare you the details.”
Aurora was greatly disturbed. Hearing from her parents that she had been cursed by a witch to not recognize her mate because she blinded the witch, it got her scared.
Notwithstanding, with what she was facing with Alpha Calhoun, it was not an interesting thing to be under a curse, so if this sorcerer had some kind of influence over the pack, then that was a big problem.
Aurora took deep breaths thinking of a way to save the pack from the hands of this sorcerer but was equally interested in something else.
“Where is your family?”
Rene had a saddened look on her face at the hearing of family. How she missed her parents, but if she called, they would give her a thousand and one reasons why she should stay back at the pack because she was the older between her and her brother.
“In New York. My dad insisted that I should be trained in the pack, so he talked to Alpha Calhoun’s father. They are business partners, so he allowed me to come.”
“Why didn’t your parents join you?” Aurora asked. “I don’t think Alpha Calhoun would mind.”
Rene smiled bitterly. Her times of happiness were limited to when the old Alpha would come to visit.
“You are the only person who has been nice to me aside from Alpha Cal’s father, so I will tell you. Alpha Calhoun only tolerates me because of business, and I live alone. My parents did something bad to Alpha Nick and Luna Sheridan, and to get their forgiveness, my parents promised to never come close to the packs.”
Aurora stiffened at the mention of her parents‘ names, but how could she not have known that something like this had happened?
“You should know exactly what your parents did, right?” She inquired. Of course, she would not be able to know everything that happened in the past, in her parents‘ lives, but this seemed important.
“I do, but it’s not pleasant.” She had even hated her parents when they confessed it to her at such a young age. Her mother tried to discourage it, but her father insisted on it, so she would know her place and understand that she might not be accepted.
Even with that, he taught her to never give up. Rene was just as weak as her mother. But she was not as lazy as her mother. All she needed was the push. Someone to encourage her and show that he or she cared for her.
“Friends don’t keep secrets. Come on. Aren’t we friends?” Aurora coerced, Rene smiled sadly. What if Aurora begins to avoid her after learning what her parents did to the Alpha and Luna of the Dark Moon Pack?
For reasons she could not explain, she began to spill everything as they walked to her tiny home.
“We are. My mother was mated with Alpha Nick, but she eloped on their wedding day to be with my father. Then Alpha Nick went into a contract marriage with Luna Sheridan. When my mom and dad’s business wasn’t going well, they planned to return to the pack to get some money, so my mom pretended she had been kidnapped and was rescued by Beta Dustin. She and Alpha Nick got back together, and Luna Sheridan ended up divorced.”
Aurora was heartbroken, but it made sense how her father always treated her mother like a treasure. It meant he regretted it along the way. Aurora never imagined her father doing such horrible things in his past.
“How is that possible? Luna Sheridan is the Luna of the Dark Moon pack.”
Rene did not refuse. “Yes, I heard that Alpha Nick caught my mom cheating on him with my dad, and that was when he rejected her. My dad said he was Alpha Nick’s best friend, and they were almost killed. Here, he said that no one must know my parentage or they would hate me. I think that is why Alpha Calhoun hates me. I don’t think his father kept the story from him.”
Aurora could tell that Rene was nothing like her parents. It was wrong for her to be punished for the sins of her parents when she was not even born.
“Whatever your parents did does not define you. You have to define yourself and shape your destiny. The best gift you can give yourself is to be the best at what you do, so take training seriously.”
Rene was so touched that she was moved to tears. Thought she liked Aurora from the onset, she even proved better than she thought, radiating so

much love.
“Thank you, Aurora.”
“So how long have you been at this pack?” Aurora asked, as she took notice of the tiny house Rene lived in.
Her house was isolated from that of the other pack members and even the omegas. Rene was treated less than an omega but was just not given a name to it.
About to enter the tiny house, an angry voice sounded behind her.
“Aurora, what are you doing here? You should have waited for me.”
At the corner of Aurora’s eyes, she saw Zion walking the opposite way with a sullen expression and seemed afraid to even look at her.
“Why is he like that?” Aurora asked, pointing in the direction Zion went, earning Alpha Calhoun’s anger.
She was curious in knowing what Alpha Calhoun must have said or done to get Zion so upset that he would not even look in her direction when she knew him to be so friendly.
“What has it got to do with you? Let’s go, I need my breakfast and my bath. After that, there is a lot of office work, and we have to go shopping too.”
He was doing everything possible to get Aurora out of there. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Rene.”
Sadness crossed Rene’s face as she replied. “Okay, Aurora.”
As soon as they walked some distance away, Alpha Calhoun turned to face Aurora, and his angry look pierced her heart. “You must stay away from Rene.”

Chapter 175
“Why?” Aurora asked, not willing to succumb to his wish this time. Alpha Calhoun walked ahead as she explained it to her.
Rene thought the pack members did not know, but Asena had spread the information before leaving for school.
“Her parents are enemies of Alpha Nick and Luna Sheridan. We don’t want to offend them, and I don’t want them to know that we are harboring their enemies‘ daughter here.”
Aurora knew that her parents would not hate Rene for what her parents did. They would only hate her if she followed their path.
“From what I heard about Alpha Nick and Luna Sheridan, I don’t think they would be so petty to hate a girl because she is the daughter of their enemy. If her parents sinned, why should she carry their punishment?”
Alpha Calhoun was angered to have wasted so much time with Zion, allowing Rene to poison Aurora’s mind.
Even Zion was proving stubborn. If Alpha Calhoun had not threatened to banish him, he would not have given up.
“What has she been telling you? It’s as if she cast a spell on you. I have to banish her from the pack,” Alpha Calhoun said seriously, Aurora paled
from shock.
She paused and raged, forcing him to equally stop and listen to her. “How can you be so heartless? Yes, she told me everything her parents did and so what? Did she ever offend you?” Aurora was willing to sacrifice everything to protect a weakling. Rene might not have anyone before, but she had
Aurora now.
Alpha Calhoun could still not approve their friendship. “Whatever. Just stay away from her.” “I won’t, and if you banish her, I will leave with her,” Aurora declared, Alpha Calhoun could feel a pending headache.
This was his reason for being hesitant to introduce her to the pack. Her personality would attract her to most of the pack members, and he was not ready to accept or welcome that.
“Her mother was just as cunning and innocent as she was but became terrible with an evil wolf. Don’t be deceived by how fragile she looks. She is dangerous,” he spoke in a warning tone, Aurora found it rather ridiculous as compared to his fiancée who was the daughter of a sorcerer, but how could she mention it?
All fingers would point at Rene for telling her. “Please don’t stop me from choosing my friends, and I see why you don’t give her attention. Why don’t you let me train her?” Alpha Calhoun scoffed. As a duty, he owed it to every pack member to train them enough to defend themselves even if they could not defend the pack.
Truthfully, he never gave Rene any special preferences, but did she deserve it?
“Even an Omega is better than her. She is the weakest she–wolf ever birthed.” Hating his judgmental ways toward the poor girl, Aurora did not make it easy for him.
“Is she really weak, or did you never give her as much attention as you give the other she–wolves? Is it because she isn’t as hot as them or wear sexy pants like the others?”
Alpha Calhoun was rendered speechless by her words. “You win. Train her.”
“Thank you,” Aurora agreed with a relieved sigh as they walked back without any more arguments.
“I will take care of a few things, and we can go shopping later, Alpha Calhoun said, as Aurora went to prepare his bath before making his breakfast.
