Chapter 179
Aurora was racking her mind trying to recall who the boy resembled but eventually gave up and asked him, “What happened to you?” It was evident that he was in pain as he responded, “My mom left for work at the pack house, and thieves broke into our house.”
“Thieves? In this pack?”
Aurora had heard about thieves, but they were not pack members, and the boy mentioned that his mother worked at the pack house. Aurora remembered Linda mentioning that she had a sick son, so this couldn’t be him, right? This boy didn’t look sick but rather injured.
The boy was taken aback by the surprised look on her face and asked, “Are you new?” He wasn’t fit to join them for training, so most of them didn’t know him.
“How did you get here?” Aurora asked, thinking of how to help him and still make it on time to Rene’s house.
“One of them knocked me out and dumped me here. I’ve never been able to move my legs before.”
The confession hinted that the boy was indeed Linda’s son, so she asked seriously, “Why didn’t you mindlink your mom for help?” The boy had a depressed look on his face. “I’m just thirteen. I don’t have my wolf yet, and my father died in a war. My mom is all I have.” Aurora knew that Alpha Cal would be upset if she took the boy to the hospital, as he constantly cautioned her to stay away from the warriors. This boy might not be a warrior, but he was still of the opposite sex. “I will help you on one condition,” she said after some thought, and the boy readily agreed.
“Anything. I just want to go home, but I’m afraid of being alone in case the rogue thieves break in again.”
‘Rogue thieves?‘ Aurora thought to herself. She had never heard of such. Rogues were still rogues. “How do they have access to the pack?”
“Some were friends of the transfer pack members before going rogue, and some were formerly pack members, so they know their way around. On what condition are you going to help me?” He asked, indirectly reminding her of her promise.
“I can help you walk again, but you must promise not to tell anyone about it. What is your name?” She asked, and the boy contemplated his answer. “I’m Jace, but how will you help me walk? I have never walked in my life before.”
Aurora was getting impatient as time was not on her side. She was even surprised that Rene had not called to nag because of the time that had elapsed. “I won’t tell you if you don’t…”
“Okay, fine. If you are able to do as you say, I will forever be indebted to you,” Jace said sincerely.
It was his dream to walk, and he would not be able to repay Aurora if she made it happen. “I just need you to keep your promise.”
Aurora touched his leg, and he screamed in pain as if his bones were being reassembled. But the next moment, the pain disappeared completely, and he felt strength in his leg.
Aurora stood up and helped him up from the ground, encouraging him, “Try walking.”
Jace couldn’t believe he was taking his first steps, though they were wobbly. He couldn’t express his gratitude.
“How did you do it? Does the Alpha know that you have special powers? What’s your name?”
Jace’s excitement knew no bounds, and he wanted to be Aurora’s friend, unaware that today was her nineteenth birthday.
She was not too petite but neither was she too tall, just like her mother. “You made a promise. Now go home, and not even your mom should know.”
Jace paused in his wobbly steps, but the more he walked, the more comfortable his legs got. For someone who never kept anything from his mom, it was just hard to keep something so exciting to himself.
“Please. I don’t hide anything from my mom, but I promise she would keep it a secret. I will join training for the first time. I can’t wait to see you again.”
Aurora was glad she hadn’t given him her name but knew that if he described her, anyone would easily recognize her.
Without another word, she began to jog to Rene’s house, but Rene wasn’t there as she expected.
She went inside, but everything was normal with no sign of a celebration. Aurora was slightly disappointed.
She wasn’t expecting much, but at least Rene should have cooked something and waited for her. Worse, she wasn’t there as always.

Chapter 179
Deflated, Aurora felt like this was the worst birthday she ever had, though her real birthday was two days before.
She just didn’t want any surprises of anyone linking her to Alpha Nick because she knew her birthday had been announced before the curse.
This was the first time she felt so lonely. Alpha Cal was in love with her but afraid of admitting it, and she didn’t know how long she should wait after convincing herself that he was the one because of the Crescent pendant.
She carried her depression to the packhouse, amazed that a surprise was waiting for her.
“Happy birthday, Aurora.” Aurora froze when she saw the people present.
Alpha Cal was beaming in front of a large cake, and there were the strongest warriors and a few she–wolves she knew didn’t like her.
Her heart warmed when she saw Rene there. No wonder she tricked her into going to her tiny home.
Now she knew exactly who told Alpha Cal about her birthday but was happy that he took time off his busy schedule to do this for her.

Linda was also there with a worried look on her face. “Make a wish, Aurora,” Alpha Cal said with a pleasant smile. Aurora’s heart warmed, but was he sure anyone could make her wish come true?
