Chapter 24

Lucien’s POV
I didn’t think. I just walked.
Through the quiet halls of the estate, past the guards who didn’t even glance my way, straight to the east wing, our sleeping quarters. I knew she’d be there. I pushed it open slowly.
There she was.
Seraphina.
Standing in front of the mirror, her hair falling softly over her shoulders. She wore light pajamas, simple and loose, but the way she stood—barefoot, arms loosely folded across her chest, staring at herself like she didn’t belong in her own skin—it made something ache inside me.
She turned when she saw me. Her eyes met mine.
“Oh,” she said quietly, her voice barely more than a breath. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. I walked toward her, slow but certain, until I was close enough to feel her warmth.
And then, without thinking, I reached out and wrapped my hand gently around her neck—not to hurt her, just to hold her in place. Her back pressed softly against the mirror.
